Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate Child & Youth Play Therapist/Counsellor to support children and young people as they navigate emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges. The successful candidate will use age-appropriate, child-centered play-based and therapeutic approaches to help clients express themselves, build coping skills, and strengthen their well-being.

This role will involve working with children and families in a clinical setting and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Duties

- Conduct developmentally appropriate assessments and identify each child’s strengths, needs, and goals.
- Provide individual counselling or play therapy tailored to children’s ages, abilities, and circumstances.
- Partner with parents, caregivers, educators, and healthcare professionals to coordinate care and reinforce therapeutic strategies.
- Develop and maintain care plans, provide case management, and connect families with relevant services and resources.
- Collect and document relevant information to monitor progress and evaluate interventions.




- Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and ongoing professional learning.

Requirements

- Relevant education and professional credentials in counselling, play therapy, child and youth care, psychology, social work, or a related field; eligibility for any required local registration or licensure.
- Experience working with children and a strong understanding of child development and therapeutic practice.
- Demonstrated skills in patient care, communication, and building trusting relationships with children and families.
- Ability to assess needs, develop treatment goals, and provide appropriate case management.
- Solid documentation skills
- Familiarity with special education, developmental differences, and adapting activities to individual needs is an asset.
- Sound judgment, empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to confidentiality, safety, and ethical practice.
