Job Description:
Our client, an established consulting engineering firm in British Columbia, is experiencing significant business growth heading into the new year and is looking to add a driven Business Development Manager to its team.
This is an exciting prospect for a relationship-focused sales professional who understands the BC construction and development landscape and knows how to turn market opportunities into new business. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the firm's client base, securing new project work, and developing relationships across a range of industries, including opportunities within the healthcare sector.
Working alongside a talented engineering team, you will help drive growth across four service areas: mechanical, electrical, fire protection/sprinkler, and energy services.
This role is best suited to a proactive business developer who enjoys prospecting, building a pipeline from the ground up, and taking ownership of the full business development cycle-from identifying opportunities through to closing new work.
Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify, pursue, and secure current business opportunities across the BC construction, development, and engineering markets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with developers, architects, general contractors, design-build firms, property managers, and other industry stakeholders.
- Conduct consistent outbound prospecting to develop new client relationships and expand the firm's market presence.
- Identify upcoming projects, monitor procurement opportunities, and track relevant RFPs, RFQs, and development activity.
- Generate new project opportunities across mechanical, electrical, sprinkler/fire protection, and energy engineering services.
- Explore opportunities to diversify the client base, including growth within the healthcare sector.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams to develop proposals, fee submissions, presentations, and client-specific solutions.
- Lead client meetings and presentations, communicate the firm's capabilities, and negotiate opportunities through to project award.
- Represent the firm at industry events, networking functions, and professional associations, including UDI, AIBC, BCCA, and CHBA.
- Maintain an organized business development pipeline, track activity, and report on targets, progress, and results.
- Stay informed on market trends, construction activity, and emerging opportunities throughout British Columbia.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of business development, sales, or client relationship experience within consulting engineering, architecture, construction, or a related AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) environment.
- An established network within the BC construction, development, and engineering community.
- Demonstrated success with proactive prospecting, developing new client relationships, and converting opportunities into revenue.
- An understanding of the construction and consulting engineering project lifecycle, including how projects are identified, pursued, and awarded.
- Sufficient technical knowledge to confidently discuss mechanical, electrical, fire protection/sprinkler, and energy services with clients. A formal engineering or technical background is an asset but is not required.
- Strong proposal development, presentation, communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- A self-directed, commercially minded approach, with the ability to manage a pipeline and work toward measurable revenue targets.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams while maintaining ownership of business development activities.
