Mississauga

Contract / Part-Time
Mississauga, Ontario – Hybrid with some on-site event attendance
$35/hour | Approximately 10–25 hours per month

Do you love music, have great ideas, and know how to turn a beautiful concert, an incredible artist, or an interesting story into something people actually want to click on, share and attend?

CMSM is looking for a creative, curious and self-motivated Marketing & Audience Development Coordinator to help us tell our story, grow our audience and bring more people into the room.

This is not a corporate marketing job, and we are not looking for someone to simply schedule a few posts and call it done.

We are looking for someone who enjoys experimenting, researching, creating and finding interesting ways to connect people with extraordinary live music. You’ll have the prospect to experience and promote exceptional musicians working in classical, jazz and global music, while helping us build a stronger and more engaged audience throughout Mississauga and beyond.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work closely with the Artistic Director to develop and carry out marketing for CMSM’s concerts, programs and audience-development initiatives.

Our season includes six Signature Series concerts, which are the major focus of our marketing activity. These concerts require more concentrated promotion in the weeks leading up to each performance.

Other programs, including Out & About and the Riverwood summer concert series, require a lighter promotional approach.

Because of this, the workload changes throughout the year. Some months are quieter; others are much busier around performances. During quieter periods, we still want to keep CMSM visible and interesting through creative special-interest content, artist features, music stories, archival material, community content and whatever other good ideas you bring to the table.

CMSM will provide you with available event materials, artist biographies, photographs, graphics, concert information and other source materials to get started. From there, we want you to use your imagination. Research the artists. Find compelling stories. Spot opportunities. Build on what we already have and create additional content and promotional ideas that will help audiences connect with the music and the organization.

Social Media & Content

You’ll help manage and grow CMSM’s presence across:

- Instagram
- Facebook
- TikTok – including helping us establish and grow our presence on the platform

You’ll create and adapt content including captions, graphics, photography, short-form video, Stories, Reels and other formats that make sense for the platform and the audience.

You’ll also:

- Find quick and efficient ways to schedule, adapt and cross-post content across platforms
- Understand that good cross-posting does not always mean posting the exact same content everywhere
- Use social media scheduling and content-management tools to make the most of limited marketing hours
- Share concert and program information with relevant Facebook community, arts, cultural and music-related groups where appropriate, using good judgment to avoid repetitive or spammy posting and respecting individual group rules
- Promote concerts, artists, ticket sales, community activities and other CMSM initiatives

Email, Eventbrite & Audience Development

This role goes well beyond social media.

You’ll also:

- Create and manage Constant Contact concert e-blasts and audience communications
- Manage and grow CMSM’s primary email list
- Help develop ways to keep past ticket purchasers connected with future concerts
- Manage the marketing side of Eventbrite, including event information, imagery and promotional content

- Help connect Eventbrite audiences with future concert advertising and communications, where permitted
- Develop strategies to encourage ticket purchasers and audience members to subscribe to future CMSM communications
- Develop and maintain a separate outreach list of community organizations, seniors’ residences, music teachers, music schools and other potential audience partners
- Look for creative ways to turn first-time attendees into returning audience members

Get Us Out Into Mississauga

We don’t want our marketing to exist entirely inside social media algorithms.

CMSM already has a starter list of local contacts, organizations, event calendars and promotional outlets that will be provided to you. From there, we’d love you to research and pursue additional opportunities to get CMSM concerts in front of new audiences.

This may include:

- Mississauga and GTA event calendars
- Community listings
- Arts and cultural organizations
- Tourism and local media opportunities
- Community newsletters
- Music schools and teachers
- Seniors’ communities
- Other local groups and organizations whose audiences might genuinely enjoy our concerts

We’re looking for someone who is curious, resourceful and excited to build on what already exists — someone who might discover a new promotional opportunity and say, “Why aren’t we on this yet?”

Digital Advertising & Analytics

Working with the Artistic Director, you’ll help manage targeted digital advertising within an approved ad budget.

You should be comfortable thinking about:

- Who is most likely to attend a particular concert
- How different programs may appeal to different audiences
- Facebook and Instagram audience targeting
- Making sensible use of a modest advertising budget
- Reviewing results and adjusting campaigns when something isn’t working

We are also looking for someone who is comfortable using the back-end analytics and insights available through social media, email and digital advertising platforms.

You should be able to use those insights to continually improve:

- Content
- Timing
- Audience targeting
- Engagement
- Email performance
- Paid advertising strategy

We want someone who is interested in what people are actually clicking, watching, opening, sharing and responding to — and who can use that information to make future marketing smarter and more effective.

You don’t need to be a data scientist. You do need to be curious about what works and willing to learn from the results.

Reporting & Collaboration

You’ll work primarily with the Artistic Director, who will establish priorities with you and help provide the information and materials you need.

We are looking for someone who can work independently and use their professional judgment without needing every post or idea approved individually.

You’ll prepare a concise marketing update approximately one week before scheduled CMSM Board meetings and attend Board meetings as required to provide a brief update on marketing activity, audience growth and upcoming priorities.

The focus is on useful reporting and results — not spending valuable marketing hours creating unnecessary paperwork.

The Hours

This is a flexible contract role of approximately 10–25 hours per month at $35/hour.

There is no fixed weekly schedule.

You can largely structure your own working hours, provided campaigns, posts, emails,

listings and other promotional activities are completed and released when they need to be.

The workload will naturally fluctuate. A month surrounding a major Signature Series concert may require more time, while another month may be much quieter.

We are looking for someone who is excellent at managing their own time and understands how to focus their hours where they will have the greatest impact each month.

Photography & Concert Call-Outs

Photography and/or event-content coverage may also be available for our six Signature Series concerts and occasional additional CMSM events.

These call-outs will be arranged separately with the Artistic Director and compensated separately from the regular monthly marketing hours.

If you enjoy concert photography or creating live-event video content, that is definitely an asset.

Who We Hope You Are

You might be a excellent fit if you are:

- Creative, imaginative and full of ideas
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently
- Organized and excellent at managing your own time
- Comfortable balancing several digital platforms
- Able to find efficient ways to schedule, adapt and cross-post content
- Experienced with social media scheduling and content-management tools
- Comfortable using back-end analytics and insights to improve future marketing
- Interested in identifying trends in audience behaviour and using them to refine campaigns
- Experienced with Instagram and Facebook
- Comfortable creating or learning TikTok content
- Familiar with email marketing platforms such as Constant Contact
- Comfortable working with Eventbrite
- Interested in audience development, not just accumulating followers
- A robust writer with a good instinct for tone and storytelling
- Someone who notices opportunities and acts on them
- Based in or near Mississauga and able to attend selected concerts and events in person
- Comfortable working collaboratively with an Artistic Director while having plenty of room to bring your own ideas forward

Experience marketing arts, culture, live music or events is a strong asset.

Knowledge of classical, jazz and global music is also an asset — but curiosity matters just as much.

A genuine passion for music is a must.

Why This Could Be a Really Fun Job

You’ll get to spend time around extraordinary musicians, hear remarkable live performances, learn about artists from different musical traditions and help introduce those experiences to new audiences.

You’ll also have room to be creative.

If you have an idea for a great Reel, an artist story, a fun TikTok, a community partnership, a behind-the-scenes piece or a completely different way to get people interested in a concert, we want to hear it.

We are a small organization, which means good ideas don’t have to travel through five departments before they happen.

There is also potential for this position to grow in scope and hours as additional grant funding becomes available.

Compensation

$35 per hour
Approximately 10–25 hours per month, depending on the programming calendar.

Photography and agreed event-content call-outs are compensated separately.

How to Apply

Please send us a brief introduction telling us a little about yourself, your experience and why this role interests you.

We’d also love to see examples of work you’ve created — social media accounts, campaigns, photography, video, writing or anything else that gives us a sense of your style and creativity.

Formal corporate cover letters are not required. We’re much more interested in getting a sense of who you are, what you can do and what kinds of ideas you might bring to CMSM.

Send your introduction, CV and samples of your past work to: [email protected]
