TOPP KIDS Out Of School Clubs
Calgary
Lead the room. Own the day. Get paid like the professional you are.
TOPP KIDS Out of School Clubs is hiring a Room Lead for one of our south Calgary school-based programs. This is a leadership role for a certified Early Childhood Educator (Level 2 or 3) who wants to run the daily flow of a school-age program, mentor a small team, and be the Program Coordinator's right hand, without giving up the hands-on, in-the-room work you love.
We are one of Canada's Best Employers (2025), 4.3★ on Indeed, and we hire internally first, always. Room Lead is the proven step to Program Coordinator at TOPP KIDS.
Pay and schedule
- $19.00 to $24.34 per hour base wage, plus the Alberta government ECE wage top-up paid on top: +$5.05/hr (Level 2) or +$8.62/hr (Level 3).
- Monday to Friday, split shift inside the school day: before-school program in the morning, after-school program from the bell to 6:00 PM. Your midday is yours.
- No evenings. No weekends. Paid for school closures over winter break.
- Full-time, permanent position on a school-year schedule (September to June).
What you'll do
- Lead the daily rhythm of the room: routines, transitions, set-up, clean-up, and the organization that keeps a program calm and running.
- Act as alternate supervisor and right hand to the Program Coordinator; step in to lead the program when they are away.
- Coach and mentor Active Play Coordinators and newer educators on the floor.
- Keep the program audit-ready: attendance, headcounts, ratio tracking, licensing documentation, and safety systems current and complete.
- Plan and deliver engaging, play-based, emergent programming, aligned with Alberta's Flight framework, for Kindergarten to Grade 6 children (active play, STEM, art, clubs, leadership opportunities).
- Build warm, qualified relationships with children, families, and school staff. Every family leaves happy.
- Model inclusive practice so every child feels known, welcomed, and safe.
Required
- Alberta Early Childhood Educator certification, Level 2 or Level 3.
- Experience working with school-age children (Kindergarten to Grade 6) in licensed child care, out-of-school care, education, or recreation.
- Standard First Aid with CPR, or willingness to complete before start (we cover the course).
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, and a Child Intervention Record Check.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Nice to have
- Previous Room Lead, Lead Educator, or supervisory experience in child care.
- Experience with emergent curriculum or play-based programming.
- Experience supporting children with inclusive needs.
- Educational Assistants, substitute teachers, and recent B.Ed. graduates: your skills transfer directly.
What you get
- Health benefits plan: medical, dental, vision, and life coverage (cost-shared, eligible after probation).
- $2,500 Educational Grant available toward upgrading your ECE certification, plus funded professional development.
- Free PD for life through ELCC & Community Development workshops and certifications.
- Access to IGNITE!, Canada's Largest School Age Care Conference.
- Paid wellness days (4 in your first year, 6 after one year), plus 5 TK Reward Time days each year after your first year.
- TOPP KIDS Room Lead Training ("Growing Into Your Leadership") in your first 30 days, plus full onboarding and The PLAY Experience™ training.
- A real career map: Room Lead → Program Coordinator → Program Support Manager. New roles go to our own people first.
- Referral bonus when someone you bring in reaches 90 days.
