Detour cafe (Dundas) is looking for someone who has great coffee knowledge, has experience working an espresso machine and making batch brew in a busy cafe environment with great customer service.

We are a local community cafe that specializes in excellent customer service, specialty coffee, in house pastries and bistro style cafe food. This role is coffee focused, but also customer service orientated with all FOH staff required to take orders, run food and provide excellent customer service.

With our Roastery in Hamilton roasting coffees every week we have amazing access to freshly roasted high quality coffees.

General Responsibilities

- Acts with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values and mission of Detour Hospitality
- Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep store operating to standard and to set a positive example for the shift team.
- Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for cues.
- Follows all operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security during each shift. Maintains a clean and organized workspace so that other staff can locate resources and product as needed.




- Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Provides exceptional quality coffee beverages consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards.
- Greet all customers with friendly and personalized service. Develop a rapport with customers by learning names and preferences
- Report all customer complaints to a manager on duty
- Answer customer questions regarding all Detour products and retail

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Experience with specialty coffee
- Ability to learn quickly and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent customer service
