Data Analyst – Power BI / Microsoft Fabric

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Data Analyst to join a highly collaborative technology and data team supporting a complex, operational setting in Ottawa.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior-to-mid-level Data Analyst with strong Power BI, SQL and Microsoft data technologies experience who enjoys turning data into meaningful dashboards, reporting and business insights.

Reporting to a senior technology leader and working closely with a Data Architect , you will design and maintain dashboards, reports, data models and analytical solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Power BI and related Azure/cloud analytics technologies .

This is also a stakeholder-facing role . Strong communication, listening skills and the ability to understand business requirements and explain data clearly are equally important to technical capability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Design, develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, visualizations and performance metrics for operational and executive audiences.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries to extract, transform and analyze data from multiple systems.
- Build and maintain dimensional and semantic data models supporting reporting and self-service analytics.
- Develop data solutions using Microsoft Fabric ,



including Lakehouse and Warehouse workloads, and related Azure Data Services .
- Integrate structured and semi-structured data from APIs, JSON, file-based exchanges and relational databases .
- Use Python/Pandas for data preparation, automation and analysis.
- Gather and understand stakeholder requirements and translate them into effective analytical and reporting solutions .
- Analyze complex datasets and communicate findings as transparent, actionable business insights .
- Support data quality, consistency, documentation, governance, privacy and security requirements.
- Help evaluate, improve and automate existing reporting processes and systems.
- Work closely with technical teams, business stakeholders and external vendors/service providers.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- Post-secondary degree/diploma in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- 3+ years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting or a related analytical role.
- 3+ years developing Power BI reports and dashboards.
- Solid SQL skills, including querying, transforming and analyzing large datasets.




- Experience with dimensional data modelling .
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse/Warehouse), Azure Data Services or comparable modern cloud analytics platforms.
- Experience with Python/Pandas .
- Experience integrating data using APIs, JSON, file-based exchanges and relational databases .
- Ability to work with structured and semi-structured data from multiple sources.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into analytical solutions .
- Ability to analyze complex information and present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders .
- Strong communication and listening skills , professional presence and a clear, structured approach to problem-solving.
- Comfortable working directly with business users, customers and stakeholders .

NICE TO HAVE

- Microsoft certifications such as Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate or Power BI Data Analyst Associate .
- Tableau experience and exposure to other BI/reporting technologies such as Qlik, Looker, SSRS or advanced Excel .
- Experience with Snowflake, AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) .
- Experience in aviation, transportation or another complex 24/7 operational environment .
- Knowledge of data governance, privacy and information security practices.
- Experience with operational performance metrics and reporting standards.
- Ability to communicate in English and French is an asset.
