Multimedia Journalist Position Type: Full time, Permanent (Existing Vacancy)

Working with the joint Calgary Herald/Calgary Sun newsroom, the successful candidate will report on news and current events in southern Alberta, with a particular focus on Lethbridge and surrounding communities. The successful candidate will live in this area and be expected to break news, while also being able to write longer news features and explanatory pieces. Applicants are expected to have excellent news judgment and an understanding of issues that impact southern Alberta. Candidates must be familiar with emerging digital trends and opportunities, be able to shoot video with a mobile device, and know how to leverage social media and digital platforms to break news and reach audiences. Reporting and writing stories with a southern Alberta focus for print, web,
and mobile audiences — as well as tailoring content to meet the varying needs of those platforms.
Initiating and developing ideas for enterprise stories and investigative projects.
Cultivating sources and establishing expertise in order to break stories and set the news agenda.
Filing video clips for digital platforms; working with digital teams to create interactive maps and graphics, searchable databases, and other multimedia elements.
Previous experience at a news organization.
Fluency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism and social media.
Familiarity with data journalism and investigative reporting an asset.
Ability to work remotely as part of a newsroom team.
