Duties - Child and Youth Care Worker The Childcare Worker is responsible, on a shift basis, for providing therapeutic care to adolescents or children within the foster care home setting. The worker shall provide for the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual needs of adolescents/children.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Cooperate with a team approach and support families to implement program goals and direction

Comply with all program policies and procedures.

Maintain working knowledge of all pertinent legislation.

Represent the program/agency in a positive and professional manner within the community.

Apply clinical and therapeutic direction as required within a relationship-based model.

Support families in actualizing outcome-based treatment plans for residents.

Plan, prepare and conduct group or individual counselling sessions with clients.

(under key worker guidance and direction).

Exhibit knowledge and skill by using clinical techniques, when dealing with youth, to control acting out and aggressive behaviour.

Develop and maintain a trusting relationship with youth.





Provide a positive role model; teach clients effective social and interpersonal skills through tasks of daily living and social activities.

Provide and participate in recreational activities designed to meet the needs, capabilities, and interest of children/adolescents.

Keep daily written logs that provide relevant clinical and observational aspects while children/ adolescents are in residence.

Maintain a thorough knowledge of community resources to meet the client’s needs; provide liaison, education and advocacy to other professionals, agencies and communities and maintain positive relationships.

Accompany youth to medical, dental and family appointments, supporting them through the interaction and completing required paperwork.

Encourage and maintain youth in school programs or alternatives and outreach.

Perform household chores and maintenance as requested.

Attend and actively participate in agency training.

Pay: From $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 3.0 – 36.0 per week
