Are you a compliance leader who enjoys building strong teams, improving processes, and making a meaningful impact in a growing business? Our client is a local fintech company operating in Canada’s evolving payments industry, with a collaborative culture built on trust, accountability, and the autonomy to make a difference.

As the organization continues to grow, they are looking for a Compliance Manager who can bring people together, strengthen their compliance practices, and help shape how the function evolves. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a multifaceted compliance program, lead a team of specialists, and work closely with senior leadership to navigate an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.

The right person will bring strong technical expertise across anti-money laundering, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance, along with the confidence to make sound decisions, develop their team, and turn regulatory requirements into practical, effective solutions. If you value collaboration, take pride in your work, and want the opportunity to influence more than just the day-to-day, this could be an excellent next step.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The key job functions are:

- Lead the day-to-day operations of a compliance team spanning anti-money laundering, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance, including workload management, coaching, and performance development.
- Oversee the organization’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing (AML/CTF) program, including risk assessments, internal policies, employee training, and ongoing improvements to transaction monitoring and screening processes.
- Review escalated investigations, potential sanctions matches, and politically exposed person (PEP) alerts, providing senior-level guidance on appropriate investigation outcomes and reporting decisions.
- Manage the compliance control-testing schedule, evaluating the effectiveness of internal controls and identifying opportunities to strengthen processes.

- Direct fraud prevention activities, working with external financial and business partners to assess emerging trends, investigate patterns, and improve detection measures.
- Monitor changes to applicable Canadian regulatory requirements, including privacy, consumer protection, financial services, and payment processing obligations, ensuring internal policies and procedures remain current.
- Oversee applicable regulatory reporting, registration, and recordkeeping requirements, ensuring that obligations are met accurately and within established timelines.
- Prepare and present monthly compliance reports to senior leadership, highlighting key findings, emerging risks, program performance, and recommended actions.
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and effective risk management across the compliance function.

Education:

- A post-secondary credential in finance, business, criminal justice, risk management, or a related discipline is an asset.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation or an equivalent recognized anti-money laundering certification is required.
- Additional certifications in fraud examination or regulatory compliance are considered an asset.

Qualifications:

- Successful completion of a clear background check is required.

Experience:

- Minimum 5 years of experience in anti-money laundering, fraud prevention, or regulatory compliance within a Canadian payments, financial technology, or Money Services Business environment.
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading a compliance team with responsibilities spanning multiple compliance functions.
- Demonstrated experience managing employee performance, developing team capabilities, and overseeing day-to-day operational priorities.
- Experience with transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, investigation escalation, regulatory reporting, and compliance control testing.
- Exposure to online gaming or gambling environments and provincial gaming regulatory requirements is a strong asset.

- Strong working knowledge of Canadian anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing legislation, including the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA).
- Familiarity with the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC), including applicable reporting, registration, and compliance obligations.
- Knowledge of Canadian and international sanctions requirements, including Canadian, United Nations, and United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions lists.
- Understanding of broader regulatory requirements affecting Canadian Money Services Businesses (MSBs) and Payment Service Providers (PSPs).

Skills:

- Leadership and Team Development: Ability to guide a multidisciplinary team, establish transparent priorities, coach employees, and promote consistent performance.
- Regulatory Expertise: Strong understanding of Canadian compliance obligations and the ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical policies, procedures, and controls.
- Investigative Judgment: Confidence in reviewing complex cases, assessing potential risk, and determining when further investigation or escalation is required.
- Risk Management: Ability to identify emerging risks, evaluate control effectiveness, and implement improvements to monitoring and prevention processes.
- Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to interpret trends, identify unusual activity, assess fraud patterns, and use findings to strengthen compliance measures.
- Communication: Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present compliance findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Organization and Accountability: Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance activities and reporting are completed on schedule.

Base Salary: $100,000-140,000 per year

- Compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and the overall expertise the successful candidate brings to the role.
- Comprehensive benefits package included.

Work Hours:

- Full-time position.
- Standard business hours, with flexibility as required to support operational and regulatory priorities.
