Corporate Controller, Fully Remote (Canada)
Osborne Financial Search is partnering with a privately held, well-funded developer of low-carbon energy infrastructure to find a Corporate Controller. The company turns organic waste and other renewable feedstocks into clean energy and low-carbon fuels, and it is advancing a significant project portfolio across Canada.
Why this role is exciting
- A newly created, permanent role at a pivotal time. The company’s first major project is moving into its next phase of development, and you’ll shape how corporate reporting is done as the business scales.
- Real visibility. You’ll prepare the reporting that leadership and the Board rely on, and your work will be seen and valued.
- Build, not just maintain. You’ll create the quarterly reporting framework, templates and close processes, and help build out reporting in the ERP.
The company encourages practical use of recent tools, including AI.
- Strong foundations. The business is well funded and led by experienced founders who have built and sold successful companies before.
- Fully remote, with genuine flexibility. What matters is that the work gets done, not when you’re at your desk.
- Room to grow. This is a platform company with more projects in the pipeline, and it has a track record of promoting from within.
Key responsibilities
- Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close for corporate and project entities, including reconciliations, accruals and journal entry review.
- Prepare full IFRS quarterly and annual financial statements, including notes and a concise MD&A; for the Board.
- Lead multi-entity consolidation, including intercompany transactions, and help move the consolidation into the ERP.
- Manage the year-end external audit, including audit file preparation, auditor communication and resolving technical matters.
- Maintain IFRS accounting policies and research new accounting matters as projects move from research into development.
- Review the General Accountant’s work across accounts payable, payroll and tax filings, and keep segregation of duties sound.
- Prepare quarterly claims under a government funding agreement, and support external advisors on tax credit and partnership matters.
- Work with the ERP implementation partner to build reports and dashboards for management.
- Pitch in wherever needed. In a small team, that sometimes includes covering accounts payable during vacations.
What you bring
- CPA designation, or equivalent current and directly relevant experience.
- Recent, hands-on experience preparing full IFRS financial statements, ideally including quarterly reporting and MD&A.;
- Experience managing external audits, either in industry or as a manager in public accounting.
- Working knowledge of multi-entity accounting and consolidation.
- Experience with a cloud-based ERP; Acumatica is an asset.
- A self-starter who works well remotely, adapts easily as priorities shift, and believes no job is too small.
- Experience in real estate development, infrastructure, energy or another capital-intensive, project-based business is an asset, but not required.
- French and proximity to Montreal are assets, not requirements.
