Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Funeral Director and Embalmer to guide families through funeral arrangements and provide respectful care for the deceased. This role combines client service, funeral planning, embalming, and coordination of services. The successful candidate will uphold professional and ethical standards while supporting families with sensitivity and care.

Duties

- Meet with families to discuss their wishes and coordinate funeral, memorial, and burial or cremation arrangements.

- Explain available services and options, using communication skills to help families make informed decisions without pressure.

- Prepare and coordinate services, including scheduling, documentation, transportation, and communication with clergy, cemeteries, crematories, and other service providers.

- Embalm and prepare deceased individuals in accordance with applicable laws, professional standards, and family instructions.

- Maintain accurate records, permits, authorizations, and case documentation.

- Prepare facilities, equipment, and ceremonial materials; help ensure services run smoothly and respectfully.

- Provide transparent guidance to families before, during, and after services, including assistance with required paperwork.





- Follow infection-control, workplace-safety, and handling procedures.

- Assist with lifting and moving caskets, equipment, and other materials as needed, using safe techniques and team support.

Requirements

- Current valid license as a Funeral Director and Embalmer, or eligibility to obtain the required licenses within Newfoundland and Labrador.

- Relevant education and practical experience in funeral service, embalming, and funeral arrangement.

- Compassionate, professional communication skills and the ability to support people experiencing grief.

- Strong organization, attention to detail, discretion, and sound judgment.

- Comfort discussing service options and applying ethical practices.

- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods and occasional heavy lifting with appropriate assistance.

- Ability to work a adaptable schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours as required.

- Commitment to confidentiality, respectful care, and compliance with applicable laws and professional standards.

Pay: $55,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
