Pay: CA$20.60–CA$24.00 per hour

Quick Summary

Cedar Security is hiring vigilant, uniformed security guards for overnight retail security in the Greater Montréal area. You will serve as the sole security presence on-site during the quietest hours — your job is to deter trespassing and vandalism, monitor for safety hazards, and respond decisively to any unusual activity. If you are a night owl with high attention to detail and the discipline to stay sharp while working alone, we want to hear from you.

About Cedar Security

Cedar Security is a rapidly-growing 100% Canadian-owned and operated company operating across Canada. At Cedar our employees are people, not just numbers: we take employee retention, training, and ongoing development seriously. If you are someone who also takes your work seriously and values professionalism, reliability, and an opportunity to grow and advance your career, then we would love to hear from you!

We are also the only security company with a recruiting program specifically for candidates who have long-term aspirations to pursue a career in law enforcement or related private and government fields. This program provides guards with advanced training in all areas of security, and postings that offer unique challenges, including regular interactions with law enforcement.

Full Job Summary

We are seeking a disciplined and alert Overnight Security Guard to protect our client’s property and assets in the Greater Montréal area. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, capable of working independently, and possesses the stamina to remain focused during the late-night and early-morning hours. While prior security experience is preferred, character and reliability matter more.

This role is best suited for someone who understands that vigilance is the primary defense against nighttime threats.

Your duties may include

- Monitoring access points
- Conducting regular foot patrols of the interior of the property
- Responding to alarms, suspicious activity, or disturbances

- Performing lock checks and ensuring all doors and windows are secure
- Writing clear and accurate incident reports after every event or patrol
- Identifying potential safety hazards (e.g., leaks, fire risks, electrical issues) during patrols
- Coordinating with emergency services or law enforcement when necessary

This is not a desk job. Many nights are uneventful, but when something happens, you need to be alert to spot it early and respond quickly, professionally, and within the boundaries of the law. Shifts are primarily static overnight hours (e.g., 10 PM–6 AM or 12 AM–8 AM) and will include weekends and holidays. You may be assigned to a single location long-term or rotate between sites in the Greater Montréal area depending on client needs. Cedar provides site-specific orientation and ongoing training for all employees.

Requirements

- Valid Québec Bureau de la sécurité privée (BSP) agent licence in the security guard category (required)
- French proficiency sufficient to communicate with customers, staff, and emergency services (required)
- Standard First Aid and CPR (preferred)
- Professional appearance and demeanor — you are representing both Cedar and the client
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12 hour shifts)
- Strong ability to remain awake, alert, and engaged during night hours
- Proven independence and comfort working alone with minimal supervision
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write clear incident reports using professional language
- Reliable and punctual — showing up on time, every time, is a baseline expectation
- Previous security experience is preferred but not required
- Must be able to commute to sites within the Greater Montréal area
