Job Title: Forklift Operator Afternoon Shift
Job Description
This role involves operating stand-up forklifts and material handling equipment in a high-volume refrigerated and freezer warehouse that stores and ships meat products. You will focus on case picking, pallet building, and staging orders using RF scanners, with the opportunity to train on reach trucks for high-level case picking and receiving after the initial training period. The position requires consistent attention to safety, accuracy, and productivity while working in cold environments throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Report directly to the meeting board at the start of each shift to receive work assignments and updates.
- Sign out an RF scanner and assigned stand-up material handling equipment, such as a dock stocker or similar forklift, and perform basic checks before use.
- Use the RF scanner to identify assigned locations and pick lists for each order.
- Perform case picking by selecting specific quantities of products (for example, multiple boxes of various meat products) as directed by the RF scanner.
- Build full pallets while operating the stand-up forklift, using both equipment and physical effort to lift and place cases weighing approximately 530 lbs, with capability up to 50 lbs.
- Stage completed pallets in designated areas according to RF scanner instructions and warehouse procedures.
- Continue to process RF scanner orders throughout the shift, maintaining accuracy, speed, and organization.
- Work consistently in refrigerated and freezer areas, adapting to temperature changes and following all cold-storage safety practices.
- After an initial period of approximately 34 months focused on case picking, participate in training on reach trucks to perform high-level case picking.
- Support receiving operations as required once trained, including moving pallets to and from racking and designated storage areas.
- Follow all warehouse safety policies, equipment operating procedures, and guidelines for working in cold environments.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, contributing to the overall orderliness and efficiency of the warehouse.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet productivity targets and support a positive, cooperative work environment.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of experience operating a reach truck or dock stocker (stand-up forklift).
- Proven experience working in a warehouse environment.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, with most cases typically weighing between 530 lbs.
- Comfort working in refrigerated and freezer environments throughout all seasons.
- Valid internal forklift license is acceptable, provided it remains current and in good standing.
- Experience with RF scanners for order picking and inventory tasks.
- Order picking experience in a warehouse or distribution setting.
- Warehouse forklift experience, specifically with stand-up equipment such as dock stockers or reach trucks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Access to a vehicle is an asset due to the warehouse location in Puslinch.
- Flexibility to perform overtime when required to support operational needs.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when picking and staging orders.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume logistics environment.
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes, including high-level case picking and receiving tasks.
