Hey! I’m Georgy, and for the past few years, I’ve been helping people outside Russia and the broader region understand what’s happening to queer communities here - and find their own way to support them. That has meant conversations with donors, collaborations with businesses and artists, fundraising campaigns, and quite a bit of following up.
I’m now becoming ComingOut’s Executive Director, and we’re looking for someone to take this work forward. We’re looking for a Russian-speaking person with fluent English who enjoys both people and processes. Someone who can write a thoughtful first message, turn a conversation into a collaboration, and remember that the donor database needs updating, too.
Who’s ComingOut?
ComingOut is an LGBTQ+ organisation supporting queer people in Russia and Russian-speaking queer communities across the region through psychological and legal help, career support, research, and advocacy.
Your work will help people understand why this support matters - and give them practical ways to be part of it. Donations are one part of that along with introducing us to someone, hosting an event, offering professional skills, or helping us reach a new community.
The Role — What You’ll Do:
- Build relationships with donors and supporters. Get to know the people who support us, answer their questions, thank them, and stay in touch beyond the moment they donate. Understand what brought them to ComingOut and what keeps them involved. Help new supporters find a way in, and look after the relationships we already have.
- Develop campaigns and collaborations. Turn our research, everyday work, news,
and partnerships into meaningful invitations to act. Develop fundraising campaigns and help people organise their own ways of supporting us: events, workplace initiatives, creative collaborations, or something we haven’t tried yet. You’ll need to balance experimentation with attention to reliable sources of support. We want new ideas, but we also want to take care of the things that already sustain us.
- Find and work with partners. Research businesses, artists, influencers, community groups, and other potential collaborators. Reach out through LinkedIn, email, introductions, and in-person conversations. Find a genuine overlap, make a clear proposal, and follow through. Support does not always mean money: you’ll also explore useful in-kind contributions, professional expertise, introductions, and shared campaigns.
- Connect communication to action. Work closely with our English-language communications colleague on priorities, campaign ideas, donor newsletters, and important public messages.
Help us speak to people who may know very little about the region—without oversimplifying it or turning people’s experiences into fundraising props. This is not a role where you produce all our social media content yourself. It is a role where you help make sure communication, partnerships,
and fundraising support one another.
- Keep the less visible work running. Maintain donor contacts and mailing lists, keep an eye on fundraising pages and payment platforms, compile monthly figures, and prepare short reports for platforms and colleagues working on financial reporting. Coordinate website updates with the media team and notice problems before they become expensive surprises.
- Own the direction, and work with the team. Set priorities, coordinate relevant colleagues and volunteers, and keep commitments moving. Make decisions within your area of responsibility, ask for input when you need it, and communicate early when something changes.
What You Can Expect From Us:
- A small, tight-knit international team where you'll have real ownership over your area of work.
- Clear communication and real support
- you won't be figuring this out alone.
- Room to experiment — we don't expect you to just repeat what's worked before. If you have an idea, we want to hear it, and we'll give it real time and resources to be tested properly.
- Exposure to a wide range of stakeholders
- businesses, influencers, musicians, other NGOs, international institutions. This is a role that builds a reliable network fast.
- A 70% position: 28 hours per week for €1,330 net per month. Possibility to grow in the role financially and in responsibilities when consistent positive results are achieved.
