Sales Manager
Aquatarium | Brockville, Ontario Full-Time Salaried Management Position The Opportunity The Aquatarium is looking for a commercially minded Sales Manager to lead and grow our earned-revenue operations across admissions, retail, memberships, group sales and guest services. This is not a role focused only on managing the business we already have. We are looking for someone who will continually ask:
Where is the next meaningful opportunity for revenue growth, and what do we need to do to capture it?
You will build sales plans, manage revenue targets and budgets, develop new business, strengthen our retail operation, lead our front-line sales and guest-services team, and use data to make better commercial decisions. Just as importantly, you will help build a professional Sales function that other Aquatarium departments trust and want to work with. You are a leader, a mentor, trainer, excellent communicator, and level-headed example for your team.
Our animal-care, education and operational teams create exceptional experiences. You will work with those teams to understand what they deliver, what can be sold, how it should be represented and what operational limits must be respected, then provide the sales support, customer management and commercial insight needed to grow revenue.
What You'll LeadRevenue and Business Development
Develop and execute an annual sales plan and translate approved revenue targets into practical seasonal and monthly goals.
Build and manage an active sales pipeline, prospect for new group, tourism, corporate and partnership opportunities, and grow repeat business.
Identify new customer segments, packages and earned-revenue opportunities that fit the Aquatarium’s mission and operational capacity.
Monitor conversion, sales performance and forecasts; adjust tactics when results are not on track.
Build practical dashboards and management reporting and work with Finance so operational and financial reporting make sense together.
We want someone who likes numbers and knows what to do with them, not merely someone who can produce a report. You should be able to explain what changed, why it matters and what you recommend doing next. You bring solutions and actionable plans to the table.
Retail and Gift Shop
Lead the Gift Shop as a revenue centre, including merchandise strategy,
purchasing, vendor relationships, seasonal planning and pricing recommendations.
Use sales history, guest demand and margin performance to guide assortment, promotions and product decisions.
Manage inventory levels, turnover, shrinkage and aged-stock performance within approved budgets and controls.
Maintain strong merchandising and presentation standards that support sales and the Aquatarium brand.
Research new retail, tourism and mission-aligned product opportunities and identify where the shop can produce stronger commercial results.
Group Sales, Memberships and Guest Services
Lead the commercial process from opportunity through conversion for groups, tour operators, corporate and community customers and commercial tourism partnerships.
Own membership sales, conversion and renewal execution, coordinating with Marketing on acquisition campaigns and messaging.
Provide management leadership for Admissions and Guest Services while empowering the Guest Services Coordinator to lead day-to-day floor coordination and shift execution.
Own the business processes and controls supporting point-of-sale, cash handling and revenue operations.
Marketing generates demand. Sales owns commercial follow-through and conversion.
Building a Trusted Sales Function
Operational departments remain responsible for the quality, feasibility, capacity and delivery of the experiences they create. Sales is responsible for understanding those products well enough to represent them accurately, sell them professionally and return useful customer intelligence to the people delivering them.
You will use conversion data, lost-sale reasons, booking patterns, cancellations, membership performance and customer feedback to help departments understand what guests value, what is working and where an opportunity or concern may exist. We want analysis and recommended action, not problems escalated without context.
What Success Looks Like
Achievement of approved revenue and operating-budget targets.
Growth across admissions, retail, memberships and group sales.
Increased conversion, per-guest revenue, repeat business and new earned-revenue opportunities.
Robust retail margin, purchasing and inventory performance.
Reliable forecasting, reporting and financial and operational controls.
A capable, accountable Sales and Guest Services team.
Trusted commercial relationships with the departments whose products Sales represents.
What You Bring
Demonstrated management experience in sales, retail, admissions, hospitality, tourism, attractions or another customer-facing commercial environment.
A record of increasing revenue or improving commercial performance and a genuine business-development mindset.
Experience creating processes, protocols, training, and mentoring.
Experience managing people, setting expectations and addressing performance.
Experience with retail or comparable merchandise and inventory operations.
Strong numerical and analytical ability, including comfort with POS, inventory, reporting systems and Excel.

Post-secondary education in business, hospitality, tourism, retail management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of progressively responsible experience.
