Who you are

- You are a motivated self-starter with a bias towards action

- You are customer-focused and passionate about creating intuitive products that fit customers’ needs

- You can take on complex challenges and break them down into short feedback loops: analyse, design, and build modular solutions; deliver MVPs; gather data and feedback; and progress iteratively

- You communicate and collaborate effectively with teammates in a fully remote setup

- You have solid experience with at least one programming language. Familiarity with Go, Python, C, C++, Rust, or a similar language translates well

- You have some experience delivering projects from gathering requirements and brainstorming ideas through to shipping a product to customers, working in a self-driven way

- You have some experience developing software that runs in the cloud or experience with systems engineering

- You have experience writing clean, robust, performant software that others can maintain easily

- You have experience writing low-level code for databases, storage layers, or query engines

- You have experience working with Kubernetes

- You have used Grafana or Prometheus in an operational role, including on-call work, or in a hobby or homelab project

- You have exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, or a desire to learn

- You are familiar with on-call work, operations or SRE tasks, or the concept of infrastructure as code

What the job involves

- Grafana Cloud is a composable observability platform that integrates metrics, logs, traces, and profiles with Grafana, allowing customers to use open-source observability software without installing, maintaining, and scaling their own observability stack
- The Databases team owns Mimir for metrics, Loki for logs, Tempo for traces, and Pyroscope for profiles.





These open-source databases are also offered as a Grafana Cloud service and as an on-premise solution. They are multi-tenant distributed systems implemented in Go and run on Kubernetes across major cloud providers

- Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning their reliability, performance, and availability

- Take an active role in influencing the roadmap and your own career objectives

- Work with your team to deliver new features, then use the results to iterate and improve

- Drive projects from initial ideation through to operations once they are in customers’ hands

- Contribute to open-source projects, including projects outside your team’s direct scope

- Participate in your team’s on-call rotations and take ownership of the services you run

- Mentor and support other team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate with the team

- Build your skills by deepening your understanding of the cloud product and customers, and learning the codebase of a large distributed system
- The engineering organisation is largely remote and uses video calls to provide guidance and meet regularly; an independent attitude and good communication skills are important
