PRIVATE MUSIC INSTRUCTOR

Dominelli School of Music is looking for friendly, dependable and creative music instructors to join our team in St. Albert and North Edmonton.

We welcome teachers from all musical backgrounds - from formally trained musicians to experienced performers with more real-world experience. What matters most is that you genuinely enjoy working with students and can make music lessons engaging, encouraging and personalized.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

We are currently building teaching schedules based on instructor availability, instruments taught and location. Current opportunities may include:

- Weekday afternoon and evening teaching
- Weekend daytime teaching
- Lessons at our St. Albert or North Edmonton schools
- Private lessons at student homes within an assigned local area
- Substitute teaching opportunities

We are especially interested in instructors who teach more than one instrument (even to a beginner level), although single-instrument specialists are also welcome to apply.

INSTRUMENTS

We are accepting applications from instructors who teach:

- Piano
- Guitar
- Bass
- Voice
- Drums
- Violin
- Ukulele
- Other instruments

ABOUT THE POSITION

Our instructors:

- Provide engaging, personalized private music lessons
- Adapt lessons to each student’s age, interests, goals and learning style
- Work with beginners through advanced students, depending on experience
- Support students with disabilities and diverse learning needs
- Provide brief lesson notes and relevant learning resources
- Communicate professionally with students, families and our administrative team
- Maintain dependable attendance and arrive prepared and on time

Some available teaching schedules involve travelling between students’ homes within a designated area. These appointments are organized geographically whenever possible.

REQUIREMENTS

- Proficiency in at least one instrument
- A genuine passion for teaching
- Patient, encouraging and comfortable adapting lessons for different learning needs




- Comfortable working with students with disabilities, including students with autism, ADHD and other additional needs
- Dependable and professional
- Smartphone with access to email and scheduling
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, or willingness to obtain one

For teaching opportunities involving student homes, applicants must also have:

- A valid driver’s licence
- A reliable vehicle
- Appropriate automobile insurance
- Comfort travelling between scheduled locations

COMPENSATION

Compensation varies according to the type of teaching assignment.

In-home instructors are paid $25 per scheduled 30-minute student appointment as independent contractors. This amount includes lesson delivery, travel time between lessons, and any travel/vehicle expenses associated with the assigned teaching area.

In-studio instructors are paid $25-$30 per hour as independent contractors. In-studio lessons are back-to back and located at our North Edmonton or St. Albert studios.

Dominelli School of Music is a locally owned music school serving families in Edmonton and St. Albert. We believe music education should be welcoming, creative and personalized - and accessible.

We are hiring a few teachers to teach lessons in-homes in St. Albert and North Edmonton.
