About True Peace Counselling

Hi, I'm Kala. I opened True Peace Counselling in late 2021, and I have been steadily growing the practice ever since. The practice started with exclusively virtual availability and has grown to have an in-person office in Victoria's Westshore, serving both individuals and couples.

Recognizing the deep sense of isolation and disconnection that comes from inner wounds impacting self-esteem and self-worth, True Peace Counselling exists to see clients heal relationally and step into deeper connection with their loved ones and community.

The clients who typically book sessions at TPC are looking for counselling because they want to change patterns in their life. The issues vary, but the common theme is that the client feels stuck and has recognized that counselling can help create movement. My general approach is to help clients describe the change they would like to see, manage the emotions that keep them rooted in unhelpful patterns, and practice skills that promote healthy changes.

I am now looking for independent contractors to join my team as I transition from solo practice to group practice. I find deep meaning and personal fulfillment in my work as a counsellor, and I would like to build a team of counsellors who feel the same way about their work.

About You

I am looking for independent contractors who fit this description:

- You enjoy system-thinking, and the idea of helping clients figure out how to make small changes that have big effects is exciting to you.
- You are comfortable working with clients who want to do deeper therapy work, exploring intergenerational patterns, inner child work, and attachment-style work.
- The word “trauma” doesn’t scare you,

and you recognize that trauma wounds have a diverse presentation.
- You understand that while this work is rewarding, it is emotionally taxing, so you would like to be a part of a supportive team of like-minded counsellors.
- You have put a lot of thought into what ethical boundaries are, and you actually take time to rest and rejuvenate.
- You have a genuine way of showing up in session, and your clients appreciate it.
- You have a deep respect for your clients, and you know how to communicate commitment to them while operating within professional boundaries.
- You resonate with and are inspired by the works of people like Dan Siegel, Terry Real, Gabor Maté, Dick Schwartz, Kristin Neff, Chris Germer, Peter Levine, Sue Johnson, Julie & John Gottman, Emily Nagoski, and Bessel van der Kolk.
- You recognize that as an independent contractor, it is expected that you maintain other sources of income outside of True Peace Counselling.

Essential Qualifications

- Must be local to Victoria, BC. This role requires in-person availability in Colwood.
- You are open to working some evenings/weekends to accommodate client availability.
- You enjoy pursuing continuing education opportunities and have continued your training past your master's degree.
- You understand that “trauma-informed” is more than a buzzword, and can explain what it means to be trauma-informed.
- You are a member of a relevant association or college: BCACC, CCPA, or BCCSW.

Optional, bonus pieces:

- You work with both individuals and couples
- Comfortable working with men

- Comfortable working with neurodivergent clients
