Lead underground rock mechanics for WSP, applying numerical modelling and geotechnical design expertise to deep, high-stress mining projects internationally.
As Principal Rock Mechanics Engineer, you will provide senior technical leadership across studies, detailed design, and operating-mine support. Your work will cover underground geomechanics, rock mass characterization, ground support, and mining-induced seismicity. You will integrate geotechnical recommendations into mine layouts, infrastructure, sequencing, and operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead rock mechanics studies for deep, high-stress, and mass-mining projects
- Develop criteria for excavations, infrastructure, development, and production areas
- Direct numerical modelling of stability, sequencing, subsidence, and ground response
- Assess rockburst, seismicity, spalling, squeezing,
and brittle rock behaviour
- Guide support systems, monitoring, rehabilitation, and Ground Control Management Plans
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in mining, geological, geotechnical, or civil engineering
- Significant underground mining rock mechanics or geotechnical engineering experience
- Expertise in deep, high-stress environments and ground-support design
- Advanced FLAC3D or equivalent numerical modelling capability
- Willingness to travel internationally to mines and client locations
Apply technical depth and leadership across underground geomechanics, modelling, ground support, and seismicity with WSP.
