Opportunity

The Department of English in the Faculty of Arts and Science invites applications for an entry-level, full-time, tenure-track appointment in pre-19th Century Literature at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2027, subject to final budgetary approval.

The Department of English is seeking an outstanding teacher with a scholarly research background in pre-19th century literature. While we are open to all pre-19th century periods, our preference is for either Medieval literature or 18th-century literature. The successful candidate should present an ongoing research plan, demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate education, and provide evidence of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level. For details about our department and the areas of expertise of our faculty members, see https://www.macewan.ca/academics/academic-departments/english/.

You will teach senior-level courses in your period of expertise and introductory literature and/or writing courses, as well as develop special topics courses and seminars in pre-19th century literature. You will also engage in scholarship as appropriate to your disciplinary background and in academic service to your department or faculty.

You must have, or be close to completion of, a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in English (or in a relevant area of expertise) and will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing research program.

You will submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching dossier (including recent teaching evaluations), statement of research interests, and sample of scholarly work.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Department Chair to provide three (3) letters of reference sent directly from referees.

Only selected candidates will be required to submit official transcripts sent directly from the institutions where you completed your degrees.

Questions about this opportunity may be addressed to Dr. Lana Krys, Department Chair, at [email protected].
