We are excited to partner with Moe's Home Collection, an established and growing furniture and home furnishings business, to find a talented Product Developer to join their Vancouver-based team.
The Opportunity
Are you passionate about bringing great design to life? Do you enjoy the process of turning creative ideas into beautifully designed, commercially successful products?
We're looking for a creative, detail-oriented and commercially minded Product Developer who can take ownership of the product development journey, from initial concept and technical design through sampling, costing and production.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an entrepreneurial, design-led business where creativity, collaboration and commercial thinking come together.
Reporting to the Manager, Product Development and Sourcing, you will work closely with internal teams and international manufacturing partners to develop products that balance design, functionality, quality and value.
You'll have the opportunity to influence new product introductions, contribute to collection development and play a meaningful role in bringing products to market.
We're particularly interested in someone who combines strong CAD and technical design expertise with hands-on product development experience, a solid understanding of manufacturing processes and the ability to confidently manage projects from concept through production.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Product Design & Development
- Lead new product introductions across multiple categories, managing the process from initial concept and design through production.
- Create and refine CAD drawings, 3D models, specification sheets and technical packages, ensuring manufacturers have clear construction and dimensional guidance.
- Collaborate on annual product design and development planning, contributing creative ideas and identifying opportunities within the product assortment.
- Translate design concepts into commercially viable, production-ready products.
- Apply your knowledge of materials, finishes and manufacturing methods to support product quality, functionality and design integrity.
- Partner with Quality Control and manufacturing teams to review samples, resolve development challenges and ensure products meet design and quality expectations.
Product Costing & Commercial Development
- Negotiate initial product costs with manufacturing partners to achieve competitive wholesale pricing and target gross margins.
- Identify value engineering opportunities that balance product aesthetics, quality, functionality and cost.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to understand market trends, pricing opportunities and assortment gaps.
- Support private label product development opportunities in partnership with Key Accounts.
- Contribute to forecasting, product analysis and creative development discussions.
Project Management & Vendor Collaboration
- Own development calendars for assigned product categories, ensuring samples, costings,
approvals and production milestones are delivered on schedule.
- Coordinate multiple sampling rounds, managing feedback and revisions with manufacturing partners.
- Maintain accurate product development records, specifications and timelines.
- Build strong relationships with international vendors, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution of challenges.
- Work proactively across teams to keep projects moving forward and identify potential issues before they impact delivery.
- Participate in international factory visits, with approximately 30% travel required.
- Accommodate occasional evening calls to collaborate with partners across different time zones.
Process Improvement & Team Collaboration
- Identify opportunities to improve product development workflows, documentation and internal processes.
- Leverage AI and digital tools to streamline research, reporting and everyday tasks.
- Support and guide the Product Development Coordinator, sharing knowledge, best practices and technical expertise.
- Collaborate with colleagues across design, sourcing, quality control and commercial teams to support departmental objectives.
What You Bring
We're looking for someone who brings a balance of creative design capability, technical product development knowledge and commercial awareness.
The experience and skills we're looking for:
- 3 to 5+ years of product development experience within furniture, home furnishings or a related consumer product category. Relevant industries include lighting, home décor, textiles, outdoor products, cabinetry, millwork and consumer goods.
- A bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Visual Design, Merchandising, International Business or a related field.
- Strong CAD and 3D design capabilities, along with proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Demonstrated experience preparing technical drawings, specification sheets and production-ready development packages.
- Experience working directly with manufacturers, ideally overseas, including managing samples, revisions and production requirements.
- A strong understanding of materials, finishes and manufacturing processes, particularly wood, metal, stone, glass and textiles.
- Hands-on costing, value engineering and supplier negotiation experience, with an understanding of wholesale pricing and gross margin targets.
- Proven ability to manage multiple product development timelines and consistently deliver against milestones.
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of how design, product assortment, pricing and consumer demand connect.
- Experience identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, particularly when working with international manufacturing partners.
- Solid organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to balance competing priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude and an interest in using technology to work more efficiently.
A portfolio demonstrating relevant product development and technical design work is required.
Experience That Would Set You Apart
- Specific experience developing furniture, including case goods, upholstery or outdoor furniture.
- Specialized knowledge of textiles, leathers and furniture construction.
- Experience developing private label collections or products for key accounts.
- Experience managing complex overseas manufacturing and sourcing relationships.
- A track record of successfully bringing products from concept to market while meeting quality, costing and timeline requirements.
Don't have direct furniture experience?
We'd still love to hear from you if you've developed products in a related category and bring strong technical design, manufacturing and product development expertise.
We're interested in people who are curious, adaptable and excited to apply their skills to the world of furniture and home furnishings.
How You Work
You're naturally creative, but you also understand what it takes to turn a good idea into a successful product.
You enjoy the design process and are equally comfortable getting into the technical details, working through manufacturing challenges and finding practical solutions.
You bring a proactive, resourceful approach to your work. You anticipate challenges, communicate early and take ownership of moving projects forward.
You're commercially minded and recognize that successful product development requires balancing aesthetics, quality, functionality, timelines and cost.
You enjoy collaborating with others, building relationships with suppliers and sharing ideas that contribute to stronger products and better processes.
Above all, you're someone who takes pride in seeing a product you've helped develop make its way from an initial concept into a customer's home.
Why Join Moe's Home Collection?
