Assistant Brewer – Schoolhouse Brewery

About Us

Schoolhouse Brewery is an independent craft brewery in Windsor, Nova Scotia. What started as a basement operation has grown into a team of 18, with a restaurant and taproom, plus beer sold through retail and wholesale channels across the province. With a second location opening in early 2027, we expect production to grow by roughly 30%, and we're looking for a motivated new brewer to grow with us.

About the Role

This role is ideal for a recent graduate of a brewing sciences or fermentation program who wants hands-on experience in a busy, growing production brewery. You'll work alongside our brewing team on every stage of production, from brew day to packaging, and build practical skills you can carry through your career.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with brewing operations, including milling, mashing, lautering, boiling and wort transfer
- Monitor fermentation and conditioning, recording gravity, temperature and pH
- Perform cellar work, including dry hopping, yeast handling, filtering and carbonation
- Clean and sanitize tanks, lines and equipment following CIP and SOP procedures
- Support canning, kegging and packaging runs
- Perform basic quality control checks and keep accurate batch records
- Help track raw materials and inventory
- Follow all health, safety and food safety standards




- Contribute to recipe development and process improvements as you grow in the role

Qualifications

- Diploma or degree in brewing sciences, fermentation, food science or a related field (recent graduates strongly encouraged to apply)
- Solid understanding of brewing processes, sanitation and quality control
- Strong attention to detail and good record-keeping habits
- Able to lift up to 25 kg and work on your feet in a wet, physically demanding environment
- Comfortable working as part of a team and taking direction
- Willing to work flexible hours when production requires it

Nice to Have

- Hands-on experience from a brewery co-op, internship or homebrewing
- Familiarity with canning lines or packaging equipment
- Forklift certification or WHMIS training
