Maintenance Manager
The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery has been brewing bold, creative beer on the waterfront in downtown Barrie since 2004. We are looking for a hands-on Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance planning, coordinate maintenance personnel and contractors, and keep our production equipment and facility operating safely, reliably, and efficiently.
This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Operations Manager and Management Team. The standard schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with flexibility required for mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends to support production needs, planned shutdowns, and urgent maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead day-to-day maintenance activities across beer production, packaging, and facility operations, prioritizing work and providing hands-on troubleshooting and repair support.
· Develop, schedule, and oversee preventive maintenance and equipment inspections; coordinate planned shutdowns with production and address recurring issues to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
· Maintain accurate work orders, purchase logs, process sheets, and maintenance records; manage spare-parts inventory, obtain supplier quotes, and track maintenance spending against approved budgets.
· Oversee maintenance of electrical, plumbing, water, compressed-air, filtration, heating, cooling, and other facility systems, coordinating qualified trades and contractors where required.
· Coordinate timely responses to breakdowns, communicate repair priorities and equipment status to production teams, and support equipment setup, adjustments, installations,
and improvement projects.
· Ensure maintenance work follows health and safety, food safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices requirements.
Schedule and coordinate contractors, confirm work scope, and monitor completion and quality.
· Provide day-to-day direction and technical guidance to maintenance personnel, coordinate workloads, and maintain clean, organized work areas through strong housekeeping and 5S practices.
· Report maintenance priorities, downtime trends, and improvement opportunities to the Operations Manager and Management Team, and complete other maintenance-related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
· Progressive industrial maintenance experience, including responsibility for maintenance planning, work coordination, and team or contractor leadership.
· Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and coordinating installation of electrical and mechanical systems, with an understanding of when qualified trades are required.
· Hands-on technical knowledge, solid mechanical aptitude, and the ability to investigate equipment failures and implement lasting corrective actions.
· Experience in a food, beverage, production, or packaging facility is considered an asset.
· Experience with electrical systems,
refrigeration, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, vacuum systems, plumbing, fabrication, welding, and equipment maintenance is preferred.
· Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and food safety regulations is considered an asset.
· Ability to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, and technical information, and maintain effective preventive maintenance schedules, work records, and spare-parts controls.
· Ability to lead and coordinate maintenance work independently, set priorities, guide others, and communicate effectively with production teams, management, suppliers, and contractors.
· Strong organizational skills, reliability, attention to detail, and sound judgement when balancing safety, production priorities, maintenance costs, and equipment reliability.
· Ability to regularly lift up to 50lbs.
· Availability to work the standard Monday-to-Friday schedule, with flexibility for mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends, including Saturdays, as operational needs require.
