The Opportunity
Calgary, AB - Full-Time - Hybrid
A growing payments technology company is seeking a Data Platform Manager to lead the team responsible for building and operating its data platform. You'll set technical direction, guide data engineering delivery and oversee systems supporting payment processing, risk management, analytics and AI. This role combines people leadership, platform ownership and governance in a regulated payments environment.

What You'll Do

- Lead, coach and develop the Data Platform team, establishing clear engineering standards.
- Set the platform’s technical direction and roadmap in alignment with business and risk priorities.
- Own data platform architecture, including ELT pipelines, data warehousing and real-time processing.
- Oversee production data systems supporting payment processing, risk management and marketing platforms.
- Balance business delivery with platform scalability, performance, reliability and technical debt.
- Establish standards for code reviews, testing, version control, documentation and CI/CD.
- Build and maintain data products, services and AI-enabled capabilities across the organization.
- Advance MLOps and AI Gateway infrastructure for production machine learning models.
- Expand AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices while maintaining appropriate human oversight.
- Implement monitoring, incident response and operational practices to maintain platform reliability.
- Automate data governance controls for data quality, privacy, security and access management.
- Ensure platform controls align with PCI-DSS and applicable privacy requirements.




- Establish safeguards for how AI agents and LLM applications access and use governed data.
- Partner with leadership, Risk, Compliance and cross-functional teams on architecture and roadmap decisions.
- Identify platform risks, governance gaps and technical debt early, driving continuous improvement.

What We Are Looking For

- 7+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, software engineering or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience leading and developing technical teams.
- Proven ability to balance business delivery with operational excellence.
- Strong experience designing, building and operating production-grade data pipelines and platform infrastructure.
- Experience deploying data products, machine learning models or AI capabilities into production.
- Strong understanding of analytics engineering, data modeling, warehousing, ELT and data governance.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python or comparable programming languages.
- Experience with version control, automated testing, CI/CD and technical documentation.
- Experience leading complex technical projects from discovery through delivery.
- Robust understanding of AI agents and LLM data access patterns, including tool interfaces, MCP, semantic layers and access controls.
- Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
- Strong technical judgment,

- Proven ability to coach engineers, conduct code reviews and establish engineering standards.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including communication with leadership, Risk and Compliance.
- Ability to define clear execution plans from ambiguous problems and make sound technical trade-offs.
