About BUILD

BUILD Inc. is an Indigenous non-profit social enterprise and paid training program in Winnipeg. Since 2006, more than 1,000 people facing barriers to employment have built construction skills and launched careers through BUILD. Our program combines hands-on experience with employment, cultural and wrap-around supports.

The role

This is BUILD's outward-facing employer-engagement role. You will spend time in the community meeting employers, following leads, learning what workplaces need and creating interesting ways for employers to connect with BUILD trainees. You might organize a workplace tour, invite an employer into the classroom, host a small meet-and-greet, develop a work trial or turn an informal introduction into a hiring conversation. The role uses the energy and creativity often associated with business development, but it is not a commercial sales job. The goal is to build trusted relationships and turn them into suitable employment pathways for youth.

What you will do

- Find and open doors. Research potential partners, attend relevant events and make confident approaches by phone, email, online and in person.
- Build employer relationships. Develop long-term connections with employers and other partners that can hire, train or advance BUILD youth.
- Create engaging opportunities. Organize practical ways for employers and trainees to connect, including tours, site visits, presentations, meet-and-greets, hiring events and work trials.
- Understand workforce demand. Ask good questions about roles, skills, schedules, workplace culture, hiring processes and retention challenges.
- Match youth with opportunities. Work with youth and Training staff to align skills, goals,

readiness and support needs with suitable employers.
- Support transitions and retention. Coordinate warm referrals, maintain follow-up and respond early when attendance, performance, communication or personal barriers affect a placement.
- Facilitate employment workshops. Deliver interactive sessions on employment readiness, workplace expectations, communication, job search and retention.
- Track activity and results. Maintain accurate records of outreach, relationships, opportunities, referrals, placements, follow-up and employment outcomes.

What you bring

- At least three years of experience in employment services, workforce development, employer engagement, recruitment, business development, sales, community outreach or a related field; relevant training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience supporting people who face multiple barriers to employment or who are marginalized.
- Confidence approaching new people, starting conversations and building relationships with employers and community partners.
- Creativity, positive energy, persistence and reliable follow-through, with examples of turning ideas or introductions into meaningful engagement or opportunity.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, histories and contemporary realities, together with cultural humility.

- Knowledge of motivational-interviewing approaches and self-determination in goal setting.
- Experience facilitating interactive workshops using adult-learning practices.
- Strong communication, negotiation, presentation, critical-thinking, organization and data-management skills.
- A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence and willingness to complete the required Child Abuse Registry Check processes.

Assets

- First Nations, Inuit or Metis identity, relevant lived experience, community relationships, cultural knowledge and/or an Indigenous language.
- Sales, business-development, recruitment, account-management or employer-relations experience.
- Knowledge of construction, apprenticeship pathways, social procurement, subcontracting or employment-training programs.

Why work at BUILD

- Help youth move from training into meaningful, lasting employment.
- Bring your personality and ideas to a role with room to try recent approaches.
- Spend time in the community building relationships that lead to practical opportunities.
- Work with a team that provides cultural, training and wrap-around supports.

How to apply
