Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the accounting department, manage financial data, internal controls, and reporting systems to ensure the financial health of the company and its construction projects.

This position will be responsible for accurate job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) scheduling, cash management, and financial reporting to leadership. The successful candidate will have strong construction accounting experience, financial management expertise, and the ability to provide strategic insights into project profitability and overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities

- Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee monthly closing, prepare financial statements, manage the general ledger, and monitor cash flow. Prepare year-end financial information and liaise with external accountants to identify tax efficiencies.

- Job Costing & Analysis: Develop and maintain detailed project budgets, track job costs, and prepare variance analysis for project managers and owners.

- WIP Reporting: Generate accurate Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules to track project profitability and financial performance.

- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with applicable lien legislation, statutory holdbacks, and contract structures. Manage certified payroll and sales tax requirements.

- Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Payroll: Oversee vendor billings, subcontractor invoicing, payment applications, and payroll.

- Internal Controls: Implement and maintain policies and procedures to improve financial accuracy and strengthen internal controls.





- Banking & Audits: Coordinate with banks regarding financing requirements and lead year-end audit processes.

Required Skills & Qualifications

- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Controller within the construction industry.

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- Certification: CPA designation (Chartered Professional Accountant) or equivalent relevant professional qualification.

- Software Proficiency: Experience with construction-specific accounting software, such as QuickBooks Contractor Edition.

- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of accounting principles, GAAP, construction lien legislation, statutory holdbacks, and job cost accounting.

- Strong knowledge of construction financial reporting, project budgets, cash flow management, and WIP schedules.

- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

- Ability to manage multiple project priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

- Strong communication skills to collaborate with field personnel, project managers, external accountants, and executive leadership.

- Strategic thinking and the ability to provide actionable insights into project costs, margins, and profitability.
