Pilot Plant Operation
About Patience Enterprises Group
Patience Enterprises Group Inc. (PEnG) is a clean-technology company developing modular gas-to-liquids systems that convert methane-containing gas streams into liquid fuels. Its development work includes catalytic partial oxidation, syngas conditioning, Fischer–Tropsch synthesis, and pilot-scale process testing.
Position summary
PEnG is seeking a Chemical Engineering Technologist to support hands-on testing and technical work at its clean-fuel pilot plant. Working under the supervision of the engineer responsible for the project, the successful candidate will prepare and run pilot tests, maintain process equipment and instrumentation, assist with experimental setups, and prepare test data and technical documentation.
Key responsibilities
· Prepare the pilot unit for testing and carry out start-up, monitoring, and shutdown activities in accordance with approved procedures and the responsible engineer’s instructions.
· Set up and conduct tests on process equipment.
· Operate, inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot pilot equipment and instrumentation. Carry out authorized replacement of components.
· Assist the responsible engineer with the design, assembly, connection, and modification of experimental apparatus.
· Collect and compile operating and test data. Review results and flag deviations or equipment issues to the responsible engineer.
· Process test data and prepare calculations, tables, and graphs to support the interpretation of pilot performance and the project’s measurement and verification framework.
· Prepare and maintain test reports, operating logs, equipment records,
technical drawings, and procedures documenting the experimental work.
· Coordinate test preparation and equipment availability with the technical team, and follow up with suppliers on parts and technical information needed for pilot testing.
· Apply established health and safety procedures for compressed gases, catalysts, chemicals, heated equipment, and pressurized systems; report hazards and follow approved procedures for equipment isolation and maintenance.
Required qualifications
· College diploma (DEC) in chemical engineering technology or a closely related technical discipline, or a higher qualification in chemical engineering or a related discipline.
· Relevant practical experience or academic laboratory experience with chemical-process equipment, pilot plants, experimental testing, or chemical research.
· Ability to follow test procedures, interpret process diagrams and technical drawings, and document equipment configurations and test conditions.
· Ability to work with experimental data, perform routine technical calculations, and prepare transparent tables, graphs, and technical reports.
· Knowledge of laboratory and pilot-plant safety practices and the ability to follow approved procedures.
· Good organizational, troubleshooting, and teamwork skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and relevant technical software.
· Proficiency in French and English.
Assets
· Experience with CPOX, fluidized beds, Fischer–Tropsch synthesis, or related catalytic processes.
· Experience with thermocouples, flowmeters, mass flow controllers, gas analyzers, or data-acquisition systems.
· Experience maintaining pilot equipment or assisting with the assembly of experimental apparatus.
· Familiarity with process drawing, simulation, or data-analysis software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Aspen HYSYS, MATLAB, or LabVIEW.
Supervision and working conditions
Technical work is performed under the supervision of the engineer responsible for the project. Experimental configurations and technical modifications are reviewed and approved by that engineer before implementation.
Work takes place in office, laboratory, and pilot-plant environments and may involve compressed gases, catalysts, chemicals, elevated temperatures, and pressurized systems. Training, appropriate personal protective equipment, and approved work procedures are required. Occasional travel to partner laboratories, suppliers, and project sites may be necessary.
