About Us

Sangster Engineering Ltd. designs and builds training equipment for military and law enforcement agencies from our facility in Amherst, Nova Scotia. We are a small, fast-moving team that takes products from concept through prototype, testing and production in-house. Our work blends mechanical, electrical and software engineering, and we ship systems to customers across Canada and internationally.

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Technologist to join us full time. Your primary focus is production: building, wiring, testing and finishing our systems to spec and on schedule. As needed, you will step into our R&D; projects to support the engineering team, whether that means 3D printing a specific part, helping assemble and instrument a test rig, or running and documenting a test. We prefer candidates with an electrical or electronics background, but we value the ability to move comfortably between electrical, mechanical and shop work.

What You Will Do

Production (primary)

- Assemble, wire and terminate electrical and electronic sub-assemblies and complete systems from schematics, drawings and work instructions.
- Solder, crimp, route and label wiring harnesses; install connectors, sensors, motors, drives and control boards.
- Perform functional testing, calibration and quality checks; troubleshoot and repair faults to component level using multimeters, oscilloscopes and bench power supplies.
- Maintain build records, test logs and traceability documentation; flag deviations and suggest process improvements.
- Keep production tooling, 3D printers and test equipment maintained and calibrated; manage parts inventory for active builds.

- Support packaging and shipping preparation.

R&D; support (as needed)

- 3D print specific parts for prototypes and fixtures, including printer setup, slicing, material selection and post-processing.
- Help design, build and instrument test rigs and fixtures; set up data acquisition and run test campaigns.
- Breadboard and prototype circuits, build cable and sensor assemblies, and program or flash microcontrollers under engineer direction.
- Produce and update CAD drawings, wiring diagrams and bills of materials; help turn prototypes into repeatable production processes.
- Document test results clearly so engineers can act on them.

What You Bring

Required

- Diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology (2- or 3-year program) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings.
- Proficient hand skills: soldering (through-hole and basic SMD), crimping, harness building, and mechanical assembly with hand and power tools.
- Comfortable using standard test equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, bench supply, function generator) to verify and troubleshoot circuits.
- Working knowledge of low-voltage DC systems, motors and drives, sensors,

batteries and power distribution.
- Organized, detail-oriented and able to follow procedures and keep accurate records.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada and able to work in office in Amherst, NS.

Preferred

- 1 to 3 years of experience in a production, prototyping or test environment.
- Certified or eligible for certification with TechNova (CET or C.Tech) or another provincial technology association.
- Experience with 3D printing (printer maintenance, slicer settings, material selection) and basic CAD (SolidWorks, Fusion 360 or similar).
- Familiarity with microcontrollers (Arduino, ESP32, STM32 or similar), embedded firmware basics, or PLCs and ladder logic.
- Exposure to PCB assembly, rework and inspection; ability to read PCB layouts and Gerber files.
- Basic machining, sheet-metal or fabrication skills (drill press, bandsaw, grinder, tapping); welding is a bonus.
- Experience with ruggedized, outdoor or high-vibration equipment.
- Valid driver's licence.
