Reporting to the Undergraduate Clinical Supervisor, the Clinical Nursing Instructor is responsible to: Prepare patient assignments before students' arrival on the unit (for hospital placements) carefully considering each student's experience level and capabilities and course learning objectives. Review the student's preparation and plan for their clinical activities with attention and integration of nursing, pathophysiological, pharmacologic, and therapeutic concepts. Encourage an inquiring, theory, and evidence-based approach to nursing practice.
Facilitate interprofessional and intraprofessional communication among students and all members of the health care team or agency. Familiarize students with the relevant policies and protocols in the clinical setting with emphasis on any health & safety requirements. Mark all assignments designated as the responsibility of the Clinical Nursing Instructor in the syllabus. Complete regular, comprehensive formative feedback notes regarding student progress and advise the course instructor immediately of reliable or ongoing student concerns. Identify clinical performance gaps and facilitate the development and implementation of student success plans in partnership with the course instructor as required. Complete midterm and final evaluation of student clinical performance and achievement of course competencies. Master's degree preferred; Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario; Minimum of 3 years of clinical work experience as a nurse; Clinical work experience in labour and delivery nursing within the last 10 years and/or clinical teaching experience in labour and delivery nursing within the last 10 years; Desire to instruct and share knowledge with nursing students; Previous experience as a preceptor or with clinical instruction would be an asset; Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity, and inclusion; Ability to address concerns and manage difficult situations, and to identify and act upon emergency situations; Ability to provide a valid Police Record Check (E-PIC or VSC) prior to the contract start date, if required by clinical agency. The Police check must be no greater than 6 months old as of contract start date; Ability to meet the clinical site occupational and immunization requirements.
