I’m looking for a warm, dependable person to provide regular companionship for my mom, who has dementia and lives in a care facility in Prince Albert. I live in Alberta and want her to have someone local who gets to know her, spends meaningful time with her and keeps me informed about how she is doing. The priority is meaningful companionship, social engagement and outings. I’m looking for someone who takes the initiative to plan enjoyable visits —playing cards, chatting, listening to music or other activities with her. Taking her out for a meal, coffee or another short outing would be an key part of the role. Outings may also include accompanying her to doctors’ appointments or other appointments, coordinating with me and the facility as needed. Suitable transportation and experience supporting someone with dementia are strongly preferred. No personal care or medication assistance is required. The facility provides those services. I would like a brief update after each visit about what you did together,
how she seemed and any changes or concerns you noticed. Having a consistent, trusted person who can be another set of eyes for me is an important part of this arrangement. Patience, kindness, a sense of humour and reliability matter. References and a current vulnerable sector check will be requested. Approximately four hours per week, with some flexibility around outings and appointments. Ideally, this would be an ongoing arrangement with the same person.
