About the Faculty of Business, Communication Studies and Aviation

The Faculty of Business, Communication Studies and Aviation has approximately 4,000students and includes the EFMD-accredited Bissett School of Business and the Schoolof Communication Studies. The Bissett School of Business offers a Bachelor ofBusiness Administration (BBA) with majors in General Management, Human ResourcesManagement, Accounting, Finance, International Business, Supply Chain Management,and Marketing. Aviation is also part of the Bissett School of Business. The Aviationprograms include a Bachelor of Aviation Management (BAM), an Aviation Diploma, and
a flight school at our Springbank Aviation Campus. The School of CommunicationStudies offers a Bachelor of Communication Studies with majors in Journalism andDigital Media, Broadcast Media Studies, Information Design, and Public Relations. Inaddition to the degrees and majors offered in the Faculty, students may take a variety ofminors, concentrations, and certificates to complement their major.

About the Department of Accounting and Finance

The Department of Accounting and Finance offers Bachelor of Business Administration(BBA) degrees in both Accounting and Finance. The BBA – Accounting major preparesstudents for careers as professional accountants in public practice, corporateenterprises, and public institutions.



Students completing the BBA – Accounting majorcan graduate by completing six core accounting and four optional accounting/financecourses, in addition to twenty courses in foundational business topics and ten generaleducation courses. Alternatively, students can choose accounting courses to beprepared for direct entry to the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) ProfessionalEducation Program (PEP).The BBA - Finance major offers students three concentration choices: FinancialAnalysis, Financial Services, and Investment Fund Management. Students completingthe Financial Analysis or Investment Fund Management concentration are well preparedto pursue a Chartered Financial Analyst ® (CFA) designation upon graduation. Aftercompleting all courses in the Financial Services concentration, students are prepared towrite the examinations leading to the Qualified Associate Financial Planner ® (QAFP) orCertified Financial Planner ® (CFP) designation. The Department also offers the Honours Program and a Co-operative Education optionin Accounting and Finance.

About the Role

The Department of Accounting and Finance in the Bissett School of Business invitesapplications for a tenure-track position in Accounting at the rank of Assistant Professor.The position will commence on July 1, 2027. The successful candidate will beresponsible for teaching advanced courses,



including but not limited to auditing,advanced financial and managerial accounting.The successful candidate will be appointed in the teaching-scholarship-service (TSS)work pattern. Faculty in the TSS work pattern teach six (6) three-hour classes peracademic year, conduct scholarly research, and provide academic service at theDepartment, Faculty, or University levels.

Qualifications

Required

- A Ph.D. in accounting or a related business discipline, or close to completion ofPh.D. (ABD) from a well-regarded post-secondary institution.
- An active or emerging research program in accounting.
- Proficiency in teaching in a post-secondary institution or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.

Preferred

- A skilled designation in accounting.
- Professional experience in accounting.
- A willingness to mentor and coach students.

The successful candidate will become an integral member of the accounting team andcontribute meaningfully to departmental priorities and activities. As the Department ofAccounting and Finance considers developing industry connections to be a criticallyimportant part of our programs, the selected candidate may be required to actively liaisewith the industry partners and professional associations on behalf of the departmentand the Bissett School of Business.Preference will be given to candidates with experience or background in curriculumdevelopment, industry-focused experiential learning pedagogies, and teaching thatcomplies with the CPA competency requirements.
