Personal Support Worker - Waterloo, ON - CAD$405.00/week
Description
We're seeking a skilled and compassionate caregiver to support an elderly couple in their Waterloo condo. Both clients are in their late 70s and early 80s, managing multiple health conditions while working to maintain their independence at home. They value consistency and are hoping to build a trusting relationship with one dedicated caregiver who can help them stay comfortable and safe in their own space.
About the Clients:
Both clients are dealing with mobility challenges—one uses a walker and recently recovered from a hip replacement, while the other has had spinal surgeries and uses assistive devices. Memory issues are present, particularly with appointment scheduling and medication management. They have a small, friendly dog who is protective but well-loved. The couple is warm and appreciative, though they can be particular about routines and preferences. They're hoping to avoid moving into a retirement home and want support that helps them stay in their condo as long as possible.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with mobility support, including walking, transferring, and using mobility aids safely
- Prepare nutritious meals and handle light meal planning
- Manage medication reminders and ensure medications are taken as prescribed
- Provide memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed
- Complete light housekeeping tasks including laundry, tidying, and maintaining a clean living space
- Coordinate grocery delivery or assist with shopping as needed
- Accompany clients to appointments via taxi or Uber, providing support and companionship
- Help manage and confirm medical appointments to avoid confusion or missed visits
- Maintain clear communication with family members about any changes or concerns
What We're Looking For:
- PSW certification with several years of hands-on experience
- Strong skills in mobility assistance and transfer techniques
- Experience with medication management and cognitive support
- Comfortable working with clients who have memory challenges
- Reliable, patient, and able to take initiative
- Comfortable around small dogs
- Excellent communication skills with both clients and family
- Ability to build rapport and maintain consistency over time
Schedule:
We're looking for 2–4 visits per week, with each shift lasting approximately 3 hours. The ideal schedule would be consistent days such as Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with flexibility for occasional appointment accompaniment. Start date is versatile but ideally within the next few weeks.
