About Artistic Stairs Ltd.

Artistic Stairs Ltd. is a Calgary-based manufacturer and installer of custom stair systems. We specialize in construction-grade wood stairs and high-quality finish-grade stair systems, combining practical manufacturing expertise with precision design and craftsmanship.

We are seeking an Autodesk Inventor Designer with strong detailing skills and experience or an aptitude for iLogic programming. This position focuses primarily on preparing accurate, production-ready stair models and drawings for our manufacturing floor, with additional responsibility for maintaining, upgrading, and improving our existing automated stair generators.

Woodworking experience and an understanding of how wood stairs are manufactured are solid assets for this role.

Position Overview The primary responsibility of this position is to detail construction-grade and finish-grade wood stairs in Autodesk Inventor so our production team can fabricate them accurately and efficiently.

The successful candidate will translate architectural drawings, site measurements, approved designs, and project specifications into complete Inventor models and fabrication drawing packages. These drawings must provide the shop with the dimensions, component details, material information, and assembly requirements needed to manufacture the stairs.

A secondary responsibility is to maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade, and improve our existing Autodesk Inventor stair generators using iLogic. This includes refining programming logic, improving model reliability, adding functionality, and making automated stair design more efficient.

The ideal candidate combines practical production detailing skills with robust Autodesk Inventor knowledge and an interest in improving automated design workflows.

Key Responsibilities1. Production Stair Detailing and Fabrication Drawings

- Detail construction-grade and finish-grade wood stairs using Autodesk Inventor.
- Produce accurate 3D models and complete fabrication drawing packages that allow the production floor to manufacture stairs with minimal clarification.
- Interpret architectural drawings, site measurements, floor plans, elevations, specifications, and approved design details.
- Detail stringers, treads, risers, landings, blocking, supports, trim components, and other stair components as required.
- Prepare drawings with appropriate dimensions, component details, material specifications, manufacturing notes, and assembly information.
- Ensure stair geometry, component sizes, and construction details are practical for manufacturing and installation.
- Incorporate project-specific requirements, field measurements, and approved design changes into Inventor models and drawings.
- Coordinate with production personnel to resolve fabrication questions, identify potential issues, and ensure drawings reflect actual manufacturing methods.
- Revise drawings and models when design changes or production feedback require updates.
- Maintain consistency between Inventor models, fabrication drawings, material lists, and finished components.
- Prioritize drawing accuracy, completeness, and timely release to support production schedules.
- Identify potential manufacturing problems before drawings are released to the shop.

1. Autodesk Inventor Modelling and Documentation

- Help Create and maintain parametric 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings in Autodesk Inventor.
- Use model parameters and constraints to maintain accurate, editable, and reliable stair designs.
- Establish consistent modelling practices and drawing standards for construction-grade and finish-grade stairs.
- Maintain organized Inventor files, assemblies, part references, and drawing documentation.
- Troubleshoot model constraints, assembly relationships, dimensional dependencies, and drawing issues.
- Ensure models accurately represent the final approved design and provide the information required for fabrication.

1. Upgrade and Improve Existing Stair Generators

- Maintain, troubleshoot, upgrade, and improve existing Autodesk Inventor stair generators.
- Review existing generators to identify opportunities to improve reliability, usability, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Modify existing iLogic rules to correct errors, improve calculations, and accommodate changing design requirements.
- Expand existing generator functionality to support additional stair configurations, dimensions, component options, and manufacturing methods.
- Improve the way generators respond to changes in floor heights, stair widths, runs, rises, stringer geometry, tread dimensions, landings, and other parameters.
- Troubleshoot failed rules, broken model dependencies, incorrect geometry, and unexpected assembly behaviour.
- Test generator outputs across different stair sizes and configurations to ensure consistent, dependable results.
- Incorporate production feedback into generator improvements to reduce manual corrections and fabrication issues.
- Maintain documentation of generator logic, functionality, and updates.

1. iLogic Programming and Automation

- Limited ability to Write, edit, debug, and maintain Autodesk Inventor iLogic rules, forms, and automation routines.
- Improve existing programming logic that controls stair dimensions, calculations, component selection, and model updates.
- Refine user input forms and configuration options to make existing stair generators easier to use.
- Improve automation for part creation, assembly configuration, component suppression, dimensional updates, and design variations.
- Automate repetitive modelling and drawing tasks where practical.
- Troubleshoot programming issues and improve the stability and maintainability of existing iLogic applications.
- Identify opportunities to reduce repetitive work and improve the efficiency of the design and production detailing process.

1. Inventor Libraries and Reusable Components

- Maintain and improve a structured Autodesk Inventor library of reusable parts, assemblies, and templates.
- Update standardized components for stringers, treads, risers, blocking, supports, landings, and other wood stair elements.
- Improve existing component families to accommodate different dimensions, materials, construction methods, and design requirements.
- Integrate library components with existing stair generators and iLogic rules.
- Maintain consistent file structures, naming conventions, part numbering, and parameter standards.

- Ensure library changes do not compromise existing models, generators, or production drawings.

1. Manufacturing and Production Improvement

- Work directly with the production team to understand fabrication requirements and resolve detailing issues.
- Identify recurring drawing errors, manufacturing challenges, and opportunities to improve design standards.
- Use feedback from the shop to improve Inventor models, production drawings, and existing stair generators.
- Improve bills of materials (BOMs), cut lists, component schedules, and material information where required.
- Prepare consistent model geometry and outputs for downstream CNC programming and fabrication workflows.
- Help reduce material waste, avoid unnecessary rework, and improve the transition from approved design to finished product.

Qualifications Required
- Practical experience with Autodesk Inventor, including 3D part modelling, assemblies, parametric modelling, and technical drawings.
- Ability to produce accurate, detailed fabrication drawings for manufacturing.
- Strong attention to detail and an understanding of how drawings are used on the production floor.
- Ability to interpret architectural drawings, dimensions, specifications, and project requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify potential fabrication issues before production.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with designers and production personnel.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience creating, editing, debugging, or improving Autodesk Inventor iLogic rules using VB.NET-based syntax.
- Experience maintaining or upgrading automated parametric design applications.
- Experience with configurable assemblies, parameter-driven modelling, and automated drawing generation.
- Experience maintaining Inventor libraries, reusable components, and standardized templates.
- Woodworking experience, particularly in stair construction, millwork, cabinetry, or custom wood fabrication.
- Knowledge of construction-grade and finish-grade wood stairs, including stringers, treads, risers, landings, and installation requirements.
- Experience with BOMs, cut lists, manufacturing documentation, or CNC fabrication workflows.

Woodworking experience is a strong asset. Candidates who understand how stairs are built, assembled, and installed will be well positioned to produce practical, accurate drawings that meet the needs of our production team.
