Bar Manager / Bartender, Gather Brewery & Glassworks (Merrickville, ON)

Job Overview

Gather is a working brewery, glassblowing studio, restaurant and taproom in the heart of Merrickville. Guests drink our beer out of glassware blown in the next room, then book a workshop to make their own. We’re looking for a Bar Manager / Bartender to run the taproom day to day and lead the team behind it.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll spend most of your shifts behind the bar pouring our beer and talking to guests, and you’ll own everything that keeps the bar running well: stock, standards, the schedule and the team. Duties

- Pour our house beer and serve wine, cider, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks, with care in every glass
- Order bar product and supplies against par levels, receive deliveries, rotate stock
- Keep the taproom, bar, fridges and patio clean, organized and guest-ready, with opening and closing checklists done on every shift
- Handle cash and card payments in Toast, reconcile tills at close, and prepare deposits
- Build the bar schedule two weeks ahead, cover sick calls, and train new bartenders and servers
- Be the go-to person on the floor: welcome guests, handle concerns quickly, and keep the room feeling like Gather
- Track sales, inventory counts, waste and comps so the numbers add up every month
- Follow AGCO and Smart Serve rules every shift: check ID, prevent over-service, and help guests get home safely




- Stay in touch with our brewer on what’s on tap, and with our chef on food, specials and events
- Lead the bar for events like Beer School, Mug Club nights, Style Spotlight, wine tastings, live music and private bookings, and pitch recent ideas

Skills and Experience

- 2+ years of bartending, with at least 1 year leading a shift or supervising staff
- Experience with a POS system (Toast is a plus) and basic spreadsheets
- Experience ordering stock and building staff schedules
- Valid Smart Serve (required)
- Confident with cash handling, making change, and inventory math
- Calm and organized on a busy Saturday, with an eye for detail when it’s quiet
- A clear, steady communicator who tells people what’s happening before they have to ask
- Available every weekend. Friday to Sunday is when we need you most.
- Reliable transportation to Merrickville
- Craft beer knowledge, or real curiosity about it, is a bonus
