About Conovey

Conovey designs and builds conveyor systems and spiral freezers for food processing and packaging plants across North America. We are the Canadian home of Span Tech conveyors, and we also design and build our own custom stainless steel equipment from the ground up. Our team of about 25 people works out of a 35,000 square foot automated facility in Milton and handles everything from engineering and fabrication to assembly and site installation.

The Role

We are looking for a CNC Laser and Waterjet Technician to run our cutting cell. You will take part files from our engineering team, nest them, cut them and get the parts to our welders and assemblers on time. This is a key position in our shop, because every job in the building starts at the laser and the waterjet.

What You Will Do

- Set up and run our 6 kW laser, cutting steel and stainless sheet and plate on the 5 by 10 table, and tube and pipe on the rotary tube cutter, including mitres and coped ends.
- Set up and run our 5 by 10 CNC waterjet for engineering plastics such as UHMW, Lexan and Ertalyte, and for any material the laser should not cut.
- Nest and post cutting programs in SigmaNest from SolidWorks part files.
- Check sheet, plate and tube stock before each job and let the team know when material needs to be ordered.
- Check first parts against the drawing and keep quality consistent through the whole run.
- Label, sort and stage cut parts by job so the fabrication and assembly crews can find them quickly.
- Carry out routine maintenance on the laser and the waterjet,



keep the service log up to date, and work with outside service technicians when a machine needs repair.
- Keep the cutting area clean, organized and safe.
- Stay in touch with the fabrication coordinator and the design team through Slack on priorities, part questions and machine status.

What We Are Looking For

- Two or more years of experience running CNC laser or waterjet cutting equipment in a manufacturing shop.
- Experience nesting parts in SigmaNest or similar nesting software.
- The ability to read engineering drawings, and comfort opening a part in SolidWorks or eDrawings to check it.
- A working knowledge of mild steel, stainless steel and engineering plastics, and how each one cuts.
- A mechanical mind and a willingness to troubleshoot a machine before calling for service.
- Good organization and the ability to keep several jobs moving at the same time.
- The ability to lift up to 50 lb and to stand for a full shift.
- Experience on a CNC press brake or a CNC router is a strong asset, and so is forklift and overhead crane experience.
