Our story began in 1903, and since then, we’ve been a food company powered by deep values, a family atmosphere, and our very own kind of entrepreneurial spirit. Today we’re a company filled with fresh energy. We are going places in the grocery business at full speed, and we’re looking for amazing people to join us on this exciting journey.
The Opportunity
Help shape how people experience work at Georgia Main Food Group. We are currently recruiting an exceptional individual who thrives on providing amazing HR services, advice, and solutions that create a superior employee experience in a people-centric, values-focused company. As Director, Employee Relations, you’ll combine strategic influence with hands-on leadership, developing an HR team, partnering with senior leaders, and navigating complex employee and labour relations challenges.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Human Resources, you’ll turn business priorities into practical people strategies and shape programs, policies, and practices across the employee lifecycle. This is an opportunity to strengthen engagement, guide meaningful change, and build fair, consistent, and compliant practices grounded in GMFG’s values.
What You’ll Do
· Oversee the employee lifecycle, from workforce planning, recruitment, and onboarding to performance, succession, engagement, disability management, health and safety, and offboarding. Partner with senior leaders on people strategies that support workforce needs, business priorities, and growth.
· Lead and develop the HR team, setting clear priorities, service standards, accountabilities, and success measures. Improve HR policies, programs, processes, and tools to ensure practical, scalable, consistent practices aligned with GMFG’s values.
· Guide leaders through complex performance, attendance, accommodation, conflict, corrective action, and termination matters fairly and consistently. Lead collective agreement interpretation, grievances, bargaining,
and union relationships while managing risk and supporting compliance. Oversee fair, timely, well-documented workplace investigations and provide findings, risk assessments, and recommendations.
· Support organizational design, change, leadership development, and workforce transitions to strengthen capability, accountability, and employee experience. Use workforce metrics to identify trends, evaluate programs, and inform leadership decisions; monitor HR service delivery and manage external providers as needed.
· Champion a respectful, inclusive, safe, high-performing workplace through discretion, integrity, sound judgment, and accountability.
What You Bring
· A bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field, or equivalent education and senior-level experience. CPHR designation is an asset.
· Eight or more years of progressive HR experience, including at least three years leading a broad HR portfolio.
· Experience advising senior leaders on complex employee relations, investigations, performance, accommodations, and organizational change. Ability to develop a team, balance competing priorities, and deliver quality service in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
· Robust knowledge of BC employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation, privacy, accessibility, and other employment legislation. Experience interpreting collective agreements, managing grievances, and collective bargaining is required.
· Business acumen linking people practices to operational, organizational, and financial priorities; sound judgment, discretion, integrity,
and strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication, including clear, professional handling of sensitive and complex information.
Accessibility and Equal Opportunity

The Fine Print
Upon hire, new employees will be placed in a starting salary between the minimum and P50 (midpoint) of the salary range. The P50 of the range represents an employee who possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position. In some circumstances, the new employee may be eligible for compensation beyond the P50 of the salary range. Factors that influence this decision include full job knowledge, qualifications, internal equity, and experience in a similar role.
