About EMFTS

ExxonMobil Fracture Technology Systems (EMFTS) develops innovative downhole completion technologies that support energy operations across North America and globally. Our team is committed to engineering excellence, innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. At EMFTS, employees have the opportunity to work on meaningful engineering challenges, collaborate with experienced professionals, and contribute directly to the development and advancement of industry-leading technologies.

We are seeking motivated engineers who enjoy solving complex technical problems, improving processes, and driving operational excellence.

Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on Electrical/Electronic Engineer to develop and support embedded electronic systems for downhole tools operating in demanding drilling environments.

This is not a desk-only design role. The engineer will own technical challenges from concept through circuit design, PCB development, firmware, prototyping, testing, production release, and field support. The successful candidate will be comfortable designing circuits, writing embedded code, soldering and modifying circuit boards, building test setups, and troubleshooting complex hardware and firmware issues.

Because this role supports both R&D; and sustaining engineering, the candidate must work effectively with limited direction and adapt as test results, field conditions, component availability, and business priorities evolve.

Key Responsibilities

- Own electronic designs and technical investigations from initial definition through implementation and verified closure.
- Design analog, digital, power, sensor-interface, communication, and microcontroller-based circuits.
- Create schematics, PCB requirements, bills of materials, component specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Perform PCB layout or work closely with PCB designers to ensure proper routing, grounding, signal integrity, thermal management, and manufacturability.
- Use simulation tools such as LTspice and TINA to analyze and optimize circuits before fabrication.
- Develop and debug embedded firmware in C/C++ for ARM-based microcontroller systems.

- Integrate sensors and communication interfaces, including SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and RS-485.
- Assemble, solder, modify, test, and troubleshoot circuit boards and electronic assemblies.
- Build prototypes, test fixtures, data-acquisition systems, and automated test tools.
- Conduct functional, thermal, vibration, shock, communication, and system-level testing.
- Investigate field failures and manufacturing issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
- Support component substitutions, obsolescence management, PCB revisions, firmware releases, and engineering changes.
- Adapt designs and priorities based on research findings, test results, field feedback, and production needs.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Three or more years of experience in electronic hardware design, embedded systems, product development, R&D;, or sustaining engineering OR zero years’ experience with PhD degree.
- Hands-on experience designing, assembling, soldering, testing, and troubleshooting printed circuit boards.
- Experience with analog, digital, power, sensor-interface, or microcontroller-based circuit design.
- Experience with ARM microcontrollers and embedded firmware development in C/C++.
- Experience with schematic and PCB-design tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, Cadence, KiCad, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, RS-485, or similar communication protocols.
- Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment.
- Ability to take ownership, work with limited supervision, and bring technical problems to closure.
- Ability to remain effective when requirements, priorities, or technical direction change.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with downhole tools, drilling equipment, wireline systems, or other oilfield equipment.
- Experience designing electronics for high-temperature, high-vibration, high-shock, or space-constrained environments.
- Experience with downhole sensors, signal conditioning, low-noise design, power management, or battery-powered systems.
- Familiarity with RTOS-based systems, automated testing, circuit simulation, FMEA, and qualification testing.
- Experience transitioning electronic products from R&D; into manufacturing and field deployment.
- Experience developing easy Windows applications using Microsoft Visual Studio is a plus.

Ideal Candidate

- Self-initiating and accountable
- Hands-on and technically curious
- Detail-oriented and disciplined
- Adaptable and comfortable with ambiguity
- Responsive, energetic, and solution-focused
- Able to balance performance, reliability, cost, schedule, and manufacturability
- Effective in cross-functional teams

Work Environment This is a hands-on engineering position that may involve time in an office, engineering laboratory, machine shop, manufacturing facility, or field environment. The engineer must be comfortable working directly with mechanical components, prototypes, test fixtures, and production hardware.
