ABOUT DJN SERVICES LTD.

DJN Services Ltd. is a locally owned and established site-development contractor based in Springfield, Manitoba, specializing in excavation, grading and leveling, and selective demolition. We deliver residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal projects across the province, and we've built our reputation on accurate bids, tight cost control, and finishing jobs on budget.

We invest in our people and our equipment, and we hold every crew to the same standard: work safely, communicate clearly, and take pride in the finished product. When you join DJN, you join a tight-knit local team that does what it says it will do - and supports its people to grow.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Mechanic Apprentice works alongside DJN's mechanic to keep our fleet running - excavators, dozers, loaders, crushing and screening equipment, end-dump trucks and trailers, and support vehicles. The role is full-time and permanent, based out of our Springfield shop, with service calls out to job sites as your skills grow.

This is a place to start or continue a trade. DJN will sponsor your apprenticeship in the Heavy Duty Equipment Technician trade (Red Seal) - registering you with Apprenticeship Manitoba, tracking your on-the-job hours, and paying you for your technical-training time. Prior apprenticeship experience is not required. We are looking for someone with mechanical aptitude and a real willingness to learn who works safely, asks good questions, and shows up ready to work.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

- Assist the mechanic with scheduled preventive maintenance on heavy equipment and trucks - oil and filter changes, fluid and grease service, and inspection of hydraulics, undercarriage, brakes, and tires.
- Learn to diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and air-brake problems on excavators, dozers, loaders, crushing and screening equipment, end-dump trucks, and trailers,

under the direction of the mechanic.
- Assist on breakdown calls at job sites - bring tools and parts, support the repair, and take on more of the work as your skills develop.
- Help with engine, transmission, differential, and final-drive repairs, and with removing, rebuilding, and replacing components.
- Learn to service and repair hydraulic systems, including cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, and fittings.
- Assist with safety inspections and inspection paperwork for the truck and trailer fleet, and learn what keeps a unit road-legal and compliant.
- Develop basic welding and fabrication skills for repairs, guards, brackets, and wear plate.
- Complete work orders and service records accurately - hours, parts used, and repairs completed.
- Help with parts pickup, receiving, and shop inventory in coordination with the Operations Manager.
- Keep your apprenticeship logbook current, attend each level's technical training, and work toward your level exams.
- Keep the shop, service truck, and tools clean, organized, and secure.
- Follow all DJN health and safety procedures, including hazard assessments, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

- Genuine interest in a career as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, and willingness to register as an apprentice with Apprenticeship Manitoba (or be currently registered at any level).
- Mechanical aptitude - comfortable with hand tools and learning from service manuals and schematics.
- Basic set of hand tools, or willingness to build one as you go.

- Valid Manitoba driver's licence, a clean driving record, and the ability to travel to job sites.
- Physically able to work in a shop and outdoor environment year-round, including lifting, climbing, and working in Manitoba weather.
- Reliable, punctual, and safety-minded - you take direction well and ask when you are unsure.
- Clear communication and accurate record-keeping.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Considered an asset
- Completed or in-progress Heavy Duty Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport, or diesel / automotive program (high school or college).

- Prior shop, farm, automotive, or equipment maintenance experience.
- Class 1 or Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement.
- Welding and fabrication experience (MIG, stick).
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostic software for engines and equipment.

- Overtime available during the busy season.
- On-site parking and steady, year-round work with a locally owned contractor that runs and maintains its own fleet.
