The Kamloops Track and Field Club (KTFC) has a proud history of producing successful athletes. Our experienced coaching staff provide a fun and encouraging environment to support recreational and competitive athletes. Our programs follow Athletics Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Model and offer options for athletes aged three to thirty-five.
Athletes can train for multiple events including cross country, sprints, hurdles, middle distance, jumps, pole vault, and throws. Alternatively, they can specialize and/or pursue high-performance opportunities. Seasonal cross-training for other sports is also an option that is supported.
KTFC has access to some of the best training facilities in Canada, allowing athletes to train year-round. We host several competitive meets both indoors and outdoors. All athletes can participate in local and regional meets.
:
The KTFC Junior Development Program is for athletes ages 9-13 years of age wishing to explore the sport of track and field. Athletes are exposed to all run, jump, and throw events and are encouraged to try them all.
The Lead Coach of this program will develop the program for both competitive and more recreational athletes, while ensuring an equal balance of training in multiple events. The Coach will be expected to develop a training schedule and sound training plan to set athletes up for success in competitions locally, regionally, and provincially, while catering to athletes who are attending for training purposes only.
Planning practices and advising and mentoring other coaches in the program will also be a core responsibility. The Lead Coach will be tasked with general communication for the program,
as well as individual communication with parents and athletes. In addition, they will be responsible for reviewing the program and implementing changes to maintain long-term success and growth. Active recruitment of athletes will be crucial.
Athletes will need to be supported by the Lead Coach in-person at competitions throughout the season. Lastly, the Coach will work to maintain a robust feeder system to the 14+ age groups. This will involve identifying the strengths of specific athletes and providing recommendations to more specialized or multi-event programs upon graduation from the JD program.
