Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced Overnight Personal Support Worker (PSW) to provide individualized care for an elderly gentleman living with dementia in his private residence.

The primary focus of this position is to ensure the client's safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the night. The client experiences mobility challenges and occasional dizziness and fainting episodes, requiring a caregiver who is attentive, patient, and confident in responding to changing care needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting seniors with dementia, providing mobility assistance, and following established safety protocols. This position offers an opportunity to provide meaningful, one-on-one care in a comfortable home environment.

Responsibilities

- Provide attentive overnight supervision, ensuring the client's safety and comfort throughout the night.
- Assist with nighttime toileting, incontinence care, personal hygiene, and repositioning as required.
- Monitor the client for dizziness, fainting episodes, changes in responsiveness, or other health concerns.
- Follow established emergency response and fall prevention protocols, seeking emergency assistance when necessary.
- Provide safe mobility and transfer assistance using appropriate equipment, including a walker, sit-to-stand lift, or Hoyer lift, in accordance with training and the client's care plan.
- Support the client with dementia through patient, reassuring communication and a calm approach to care.
- Assist with nighttime hydration or snacks as appropriate, following dietary requirements and swallowing precautions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment to minimize fall risks.
- Monitor and document nighttime activity, including sleep patterns, bathroom visits, changes in behaviour, and any incidents or concerns.




- Complete detailed overnight shift notes to ensure continuity of care between caregivers.
- Communicate promptly with the care coordinator and family regarding significant changes in the client's condition.
- Follow all established care plans, safety procedures, and household guidelines.

Qualifications
- Previous experience providing personal support or private home care to seniors is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting individuals with dementia or cognitive impairment is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of fall prevention, safe transfers, and mobility assistance is essential.
- Experience using mobility equipment, including Hoyer lifts and sit-to-stand devices, is considered an asset.
- Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to fainting episodes, medical emergencies, and changes in a client's condition.
- Solid communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate care documentation.
- A compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to providing personal care.
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours while remaining attentive and responsive to the client's needs.
- Physically capable of assisting with personal care and mobility within safe handling guidelines.
- PSW certification or equivalent caregiving experience is preferred.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is considered an asset.
- Reliability, professionalism, and respect for client privacy and dignity are essential.

Additional Information This is a private home care position supporting one elderly client in a familiar and comfortable environment. The successful candidate will work as part of an established caregiving team and will be expected to follow individualized care plans and communicate effectively with the care coordinator.

Pay: $24.00 per hour
