You've already been teaching. You just haven't been paid for it.
Every time you walked a patient through a new prescription, oriented a recent colleague, or caught something before it reached the counter — you were teaching. You were the person people turned to when they needed to understand something. That's exactly what we need.
Elevare Career Institute is looking for an experienced pharmacy professional to join our team as a part-time, evening Pharmacy Assistant Instructor, teaching live online from anywhere in British Columbia. Candidates in the Kelowna/Okanagan area are preferred, but we welcome remote instructors from across BC.
If you're already working in pharmacy and want to earn extra income doing something meaningful — without giving up your day job — this role was built for you.
About Elevare Career Institute
We're a private healthcare career college in Kelowna, BC, built on a straightforward mission: empowering people and transforming lives through accessible, high-quality healthcare training.
We're not a large institution. We know our students by name. We work hard to make sure every graduate leaves prepared, confident, and ready to contribute — and we look for instructors who take that just as seriously as we do.
Why Pharmacy Professionals Choose Teaching
You didn't get into pharmacy for the grind. You got into it because you care — about getting it right, about the standards that protect people, about doing the job the way it's supposed to be done.
Teaching lets you do that on a different scale. Instead of one shift, one counter, one patient at a time — you build something that lasts. The habits you instill, the attention to detail you model, the professional standards you hold your students to — those ripple outward into every pharmacy your graduates ever work in.
And the schedule fits around your life: Monday to Friday evenings, 4 hours per evening (20 hours per week). No weekends. Teach from home — no commute required.
The Role
You'll teach adult learners in our 16-week Pharmacy Assistant program through live, real-time virtual classes on Microsoft Teams, supported by self-paced online components. Courses include:
- Medical Terminology and Pharmacology
- Pharmacy Software Fundamentals
- Pharmacology Calculations
- Retail Support Training
- Professional Communications
Topics cover prescription processing and dispensing, brand and generic medications, controlled-substance handling and storage, inventory management, pharmacy software, pharmacy law and ethics, and patient and customer communication. You'll have administrative and academic support behind you so you can focus on what matters: your students. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Delivering live online instruction aligned with the approved curriculum and learning outcomes, and supporting students through the self-paced course components
- Using screen sharing and digital tools to demonstrate pharmacy software, calculations, and workflows
- Supporting student learning through clear instruction, one-on-one help, review sessions, and timely, constructive feedback
- Evaluating and documenting student performance through quizzes, assignments, exams, and projects
- Maintaining accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress per institutional and regulatory requirements
- Monitoring and supporting students during their 120-hour practicum placement as needed, ensuring a meaningful, safe, and professional experience
- Fostering a respectful, inclusive, professionally grounded learning environment
Exact evening class times, office hours, and preparation time will be discussed at the interview.
What We're Looking For
You meet one of the following:
Option 1 — Credential + Experience: A relevant post-secondary credential in pharmacy or a closely related field (e.g., Pharmacy Technician diploma, Pharmacy Assistant certificate, BSc Pharmacy, or equivalent), plus at least 2 years of recent, relevant experience in a community, hospital, or other pharmacy practice setting.
Option 2 — Extensive Occupational Experience: At least 10 years of full-time,
relevant experience in pharmacy or a closely related field, demonstrating depth of practical knowledge, professional responsibility, and competence.
Remote teaching requirements (for candidates outside commuting distance of our Kelowna campus):
- A computer with a working webcam and microphone that can run Microsoft Teams video and audio conferencing
- The skills to share your screen and teach confidently in a live online setting
- A reliable high-speed internet connection
Strong assets — not required, but genuinely valued:
- Previous teaching, training, precepting, or mentorship experience (supervising students, orienting new staff, leading in-services)
- Experience teaching online or using learning management systems (LMS)
- Familiarity with pharmacy management software
- Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and culturally safe practice in healthcare and education
What We Offer
- CA$25.00 – CA$30.00 per hour, based on education and experience
- A steady 20-hour weekly evening schedule, Monday to Friday — ideal alongside a daytime pharmacy role
- Work from home anywhere in BC
- A small, collaborative team that respects your time and values your expertise
How to Apply If you're a pharmacy professional in BC who's ready to pass on what you've spent years building — we'd genuinely love to hear from you.
