Key Responsibilities
Coating, Galvanizing & Finish Inspection
- Paint Quality Verification: Conduct thorough visual and physical inspections of painted and powder-coated metal parts. Check for common finish defects such as runs, sags, orange peel, fisheyes, uneven coverage, or improper masking.
- Galvanizing Inspection: Inspect hot-dip galvanized components for proper coating thickness, uniformity, and appearance. Identify common galvanizing defects such as bare spots, dross inclusions, ash, or excessive buildup.
- Testing & Measurement: Utilize standard inspection tools, including dry film thickness (DFT) gauges, gloss meters, and cross-hatch adhesion testers, to verify paint and galvanized coating integrity against specifications.
- Quantity Control: Perform accurate piece counts to verify that the quantity of parts processed matches the shipping manifests and production work orders.
Weld Quality Checking
- Visual Weld Inspection (VT): Inspect welds on fabricated parts prior to or after finishing to ensure structural integrity and aesthetic compliance.
- Defect Identification: Check for weld defects such as porosity, undercut, incomplete penetration, cracks, or excessive spatter, ensuring all welding aligns with engineered drawings and weld symbols.
Documentation & Communication
- Record Keeping: Complete and submit all necessary quality documentation, inspection logs, and sign-off sheets accurately and strictly on time by the end of the shift.
- Non-Conformance Reporting: Immediately identify, isolate, and document any non-conforming products (NCR). Communicate paint, galvanizing, or welding defects directly to the facility personnel and the home office to prevent shipment of substandard parts.
- Liaison Duties: Act as the professional point of contact between our fabrication plant and the off-site facility during the evening shift,
ensuring any quality or scheduling issues are escalated and resolved promptly.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience in quality control or manufacturing, with specific experience in industrial painting, hot-dip galvanizing, and visual weld inspection highly preferred.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of finishing processes and basic welding standards. Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and weld symbols.
- Technical Tools: Hands-on experience using coating thickness gauges, gloss meters, weld gauges (e.g., fillet weld gauges), and basic hand measurement tools.
- Independence & Reliability: Proven ability to work autonomously off-site with minimal direct supervision while maintaining high standards of integrity and accountability.
- Attention to Detail: Strong observational skills to catch minor aesthetic defects in metal finishes and structural flaws in welds.
- Communication: Explicit written and verbal communication skills to effectively report findings and complete technical documentation.
- Shift & Travel: Must be available to work the dedicated second shift (3:00 PM to 11:30 PM). Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to commute directly to the off-site facility.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work is primarily conducted on the shop floor of an off-site industrial paint and finishing facility.
- Requires standing for extended periods, bending, and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs safely.
- Must adhere to all safety protocols of the host facility and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which may include safety glasses, steel-toed boots, weld-safe apparel, and respirators as required by the environment.
Pay: $18.33-$25.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
Benefits
