Position Summary

Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the Transportation Dispatcher plays a critical role in coordinating transportation activities and supporting the day-to-day management of delivery operations. This position is responsible for ensuring efficient dispatching, managing driver schedules, optimizing routes, maintaining transportation metrics, and providing exceptional service to both customers and Independent Contractors (ICs).

The successful candidate will help improve operational efficiency through effective communication, problem-solving, and continuous process improvement while ensuring service commitments are consistently met.

What You'll DoDispatch & Transportation Coordination

- Dispatch orders efficiently within assigned service areas and dispatch boards.
- Assess transportation requirements and assign drivers appropriately.
- Monitor order status and key delivery milestones to ensure on-time performance.
- Manage broker and driver schedules to support daily transportation operations.
- Trace and track shipments, providing accurate updates to customers and internal teams.
- Follow established Proof of Delivery (POD) procedures and documentation requirements.

Customer Service & Communication

- Answer incoming calls and inquiries from drivers and customers.
- Communicate order delays and service issues to customers, Customer Service, and Logistics Coordinators.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with drivers, brokers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Build positive working relationships with Independent Contractors and operational teams.





Operational Excellence

- Maintain timely and accurate updates of order notes and shipment information within company systems.
- Ensure compliance with company and client-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Support route optimization initiatives to improve transportation efficiency.
- Assist with transportation reporting and performance metric tracking.
- Participate in operational projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support training and coaching efforts for dispatchers and Independent Contractors when required.

What You BringTechnical & Operational Skills

- Strong understanding of transportation, dispatch, routing, and logistics operations.
- Knowledge of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Southwestern Ontario (SWO) transportation networks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the capacity to make decisions quickly.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience working with dispatch software, transportation management systems, and operational reporting tools.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Required Qualifications

- College Diploma or University Degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of dispatch experience within the transportation, logistics, warehousing, or courier industry.
- Strong customer service experience.

- Ability to manage priorities and perform effectively under time-sensitive conditions.
