ROLE PURPOSEThis position will provide casework, residential and community support to residents of the Connective's programs, using a harm reduction model, who are requiring enhanced support due to active addiction and involvement with the criminal justice system. This role provides enhanced support to residence in order to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counselling and/or rehabilitative plans.STATUS AND CLASSIFICATIONUnionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders.HOURS (32 HOURS PER WEEK)Sunday - Monday 0800-1600 Friday- Saturday 0815-1615This is a temporary positionKEY ACCOUNTABILITIESProvides input to the Program Manager and/or other staff regarding the development of appropriate care plans to achieve residents' objectivesEnsures residents follow the terms of their residency and are aware of the rules of the facilityDevelops interpersonal therapeutic relationships with psychiatric patientsUses professional judgment to ascertain and to apply appropriate intervention techniques with residents in crisisProvides emotional support and feedback to residents and their familiesWhen assigned, participates in social, recreational, employment, educational and other programs as appropriate to assist residents' case/care plansActs as a positive role model for residents, providing life skills training and behaviour management as appropriateWorks in a high stress environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situationsEXPERIENCE AND SKILLSDiploma, preferably in behavioural sciences, social work,



community social services or criminology or equivalent with one-year related experienceTwo years related experienceAdvanced knowledge of de-escalation strategies for client in active addictionKnowledge of the criminal justice systemExperience in the appropriate field and demonstrate a clear ability to respond well in crisis situationsKnowledge and ability to integrate anti-oppression, anti-racist, trauma-informed, critical disability, LGBTQ2S-positivity, harm reduction, recovery approach in support to mental health and strengths-based principles into practice.Experience with FASD, ADHD, autism spectrum, aggressive and self-harming behaviourUnderstands the challenges of living with a hearing disabilityAn understanding of the intergenerational impacts of the residential school systems, colonization and the various Indigenous Nations, practices and ceremonies.Familiarity with youth development stages and the impacts on adulthoodAn understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilitiesDemonstrated experience in an applicable residential settingDemonstrated a good working knowledge of the technical details important to the functioning of group residencesExperience with ResidentsAn awareness of Community Living of British Columbia (the contractor) concerns, laws, and policies related to the specific residence programDemonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with othersKnowledge of theory, principles, and practices in the fields related to the particular residenceExcellent written and verbal communication skills in EnglishREQUIREMENTSAbility to successfully pass a reference checkExperience working with aggressive clients, addictions and/or in a shelter settingCurrent Emergency First Aid Certificate (please refer to Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafeBC)Valid class 5 driver's licenseProof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirementsCOMPENSATIONAs Connective is a unionized setting, the starting wage is $30.95 per hour.
