Design UAV airframes in Edmonton using mechanical CAD and aerodynamic analysis, then fabricate prototypes in a hands-on workshop setting. Terrestrial X is building a DefTech R&D; team for practical aircraft development.
As an aircraft designer, you will take fixed-wing aircraft from concept through prototype fabrication, testing, and preparation for repeatable manufacturing. Your work will combine SolidWorks or equivalent CAD, CFD using SimScale or Ansys, structural design, and physical fabrication. You will collaborate with electronics, software, and manufacturing colleagues.
Key Responsibilities: Create aircraft layouts, CAD assemblies, drawings, bills of materials, and tooling
Analyse aerodynamics, flight performance, loads, materials, weight, and manufacturability
Fabricate prototypes using composites, foam, printed, and machined parts
Coordinate component placement, centre of gravity, access, and integration
Support mechanical checks, flight testing, troubleshooting, and production updates
Requirements: Hands-on fixed-wing aircraft design and fabrication experience
Solid mechanical CAD skills using SolidWorks, Fusion, or equivalent
Practical CFD capability with SimScale or Ansys
Understanding of lift, drag, stall behaviour, stability, and handling
Workshop, fabrication, measurement, and RC/UAV integration skills
Use airframe design, aerodynamic analysis, CAD, and fabrication expertise to develop physical UAV prototypes at Terrestrial X in Edmonton.
