POSITION OVERVIEW

We are currently seeking an Entry-Level Fabricator / Upfitter to join our in-shop service team. This role focuses on assisting with the assembly, fabrication, customization, inspection, and refurbishment of fire trucks and emergency vehicles at our dealership facility.

This is not a licensed technician position and does not require a 310T or 310S certification. We are looking for individuals who are mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and interested in developing hands-on trade skills in a growing industry.

You will work alongside experienced technicians and fabricators, gaining exposure to vehicle upfitting, light fabrication, inspections, and refurbishment projects on new and in-service apparatus.

DUTIES INCLUDE

· Inspect incoming fire apparatus and emergency vehicles upon arrival from the factory or customer locations to identify and document any shipping or handling damage and confirm overall condition at time of receipt.

· Review scope of work and project timelines with the Service Manager and senior technicians to ensure proper planning, workflow strategy, and scheduling of refurbishment or upfitting activities.

· Perform Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI)

on new vehicles, ensuring equipment installation, fitment, and overall presentation meet company quality standards prior to customer delivery.

· Assist with light fabrication and assembly of aluminum and steel components including storage trays, shelving units, slide-out assemblies, heat pans, hose bed cover doors, and other custom brackets or structural pieces required for emergency vehicle builds and refurbishments.

· Install and configure new customer-specific equipment and accessories such as lighting packages, new piping and water connections, interior modifications, SCBA seating and mounts, and other add-ons based on build sheets and customer specifications.

· Support light fabrication and metal work involving aluminum and steel components using hand tools, power tools, drills, grinders, and basic shop equipment. Training will be provided where required.

· Participate in refurbishment projects including disassembly, surface preparation, cleaning, sanding, masking, re-assembly, and final detailing of vehicles.

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation by washing, detailing, and preparing trucks for delivery, customer pickup, or display.

· Follow build sheets, drawings, and instructions from senior technicians and shop leads while contributing to overall shop organization and efficiency.

· Adhere to all workplace safety protocols, quality standards, and company procedures at all times.

ADDITIONAL EXPOSURE & SUPPORT TASKS

During slower refurbishment periods or peak service demand, the Fabricator / Upfitter may also have opportunities to support the Emergency Vehicle Technician team with tasks such as:

· Assisting with pump testing and other annual inspections required under NFPA standards.

· Providing basic support work on firefighting equipment such as Holmatro rescue tools and Draeger SCBA units under the supervision of certified technicians.

· Helping with shop preparation, equipment staging, and general service assistance as needed to support team workload and operational efficiency.

· These responsibilities provide valuable industry exposure and learning opportunities but are considered supplementary to the primary fabrication and upfitting role.

QUALIFICATIONS

· No trade license required. This is an entry-level position.

· Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools is strongly preferred.

· Previous shop, construction, automotive, fabrication, or manufacturing experience is considered an asset but not mandatory.

· Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work as part of a team is essential.

· Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality are critical.

· Ability to lift moderate weight and work on vehicles at various heights.

· Basic knowledge of measuring tools and power tools is an asset.

· Valid Ontario G Driver’s License is required. The desire and ability to obtain a DZ Driver’s License is considered a strong asset.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

· Someone who enjoys working with their hands.

· Someone who takes pride in quality workmanship and presentation.

· Someone who wants to learn a trade without needing formal certification.

· Someone who works well in a team-based environment and contributes positively to shop culture.
