Couples Therapist
Independent Contractor | Shift Psychological and Counselling Services
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia | In-person and Virtual
Help couples find the meaningful connection they’re longing for.
Are you passionate about couples therapy and looking to build a practice around work you genuinely enjoy? Shift Psychological and Counselling Services is seeking a Couples Therapist to join our established group practice in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
At Shift, our humanistic and relational values shape how we support both clients and clinicians. We offer a professional environment where you can focus on providing high-quality couples therapy, maintain clinical autonomy, and benefit from the administrative support and referral network of an established practice.
We welcome experienced couples therapists as well as clinicians looking to develop couples therapy as a significant area of their practice.
The Opportunity
Your primary focus will be providing meaningful, high-quality couples therapy. Our couples practice is grounded in relational, systemic, and attachment-based approaches, with particular interest in:
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Relational Life Therapy (RLT)
- Trauma-informed couples therapy
You can develop your practice in areas such as attachment and emotional connection, communication and conflict, relationship transitions, infidelity, intimacy, separation and reconciliation, premarital counselling, and the impact of trauma on relationships.
While couples therapy will be a core focus, you will have the autonomy to include individual clients and shape your caseload around your clinical interests, expertise, and preferred way of working.
What Shift Offers
Clinical autonomy
Shape your practice around your clinical approach, professional interests, schedule, and preferred caseload.
Administrative and practice-management support
Spend more time doing clinical work and less time managing the business of private practice. Our support includes client onboarding, scheduling through Jane Practice Management Software, billing, AI scribe tools, and practice growth support.
Established referral network
Benefit from an established practice and thoughtful intake coordination designed to align referrals with your competencies, interests, and availability.
Flexible work arrangements
Provide in-person services at our Halifax office, offer virtual services across Nova Scotia, or combine both. You determine your clinical availability, weekly schedule, client load, and vacation time.
Collegial connection
Join a warm, collaborative team that values professional relationships, clinical consultation, shared learning, and high-quality client care.
Professional growth
Develop your couples therapy specialization, expand your clinical expertise, and build a practice that reflects your professional goals.
Competitive compensation
This is an independent contractor position with a percentage-based fee-sharing model, providing access to the administrative, referral, and practice infrastructure of an established group practice.
Our Office
Our Halifax office is located at the Gladstone Professional Centre, offering a convenient and skilled setting for in-person clinical work.
The office features:
- Free parking
- Accessible facilities
- Convenient access for clients and clinicians
- A recently designed professional space with natural light and soundproofed walls
