Sport and Recreation plays a key role in creating a welcoming environment at Western. Sport and Recreation works closely with Western and the local community to make connections, foster goodwill, encourage involvement and school spirit, offer experiential opportunities for students, make a positive impact, deliver spirited programming and events, and encourage collaboration and entrepreneurship. The Mustangs’ brand is a passion point that unifies current students and alumni around the world. Our signature spaces, events, programmes, and teams serve to act as a connection point for Western students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as for external businesses, government, and organizations.

Responsibilities

Purpose of the Role

Mustangs Athletics is seeking enthusiastic and energetic current Western University students to perform as JW, the Mustangs mascot, throughout the upcoming Mustangs season. The JW Mascot Performer plays an key role in creating an exciting and memorable game-day experience for fans. The performer will engage with fans, collaborate with the promotions and event teams to deliver contests and skits, and participate in photo opportunities and other activities. The successful candidate will maintain the established personality and identity of JW while representing the Mustangs in a positive and professional manner.

Responsibilities

- Bring enthusiasm, energy, and excitement to games and events.
- Interact and engage with fans throughout games and events.
- Work closely with the event lead and promotions team to develop and execute skits, contests, and other in-game activities.
- Participate in photo opportunities with fans and support fan engagement initiatives.
- Maintain the established personality, character, and identity of JW at all times.
- Ensure the mascot costume is properly handled, stored, and cared for.
- Take direction and work cooperatively with event staff, performers, and other team members.
- Demonstrate a friendly, outgoing, and approachable personality.
- Be comfortable interacting with children and families in a fun, family-friendly environment.
- Be physically capable of performing and remaining active for the duration of games and events.
- Attend and participate in additional Mustangs events throughout the year.




- Perform other related duties and tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

- Must be a full-time student at Western University.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends, including game days and special events.
- Ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a team.
- Friendly, outgoing, and energetic personality.
- Comfortable engaging with large groups and interacting with fans of all ages.
- Physically capable of performing in a mascot costume for extended periods.
- Athletic ability and/or a background in performance, dance, theatre, or similar activities is considered an asset.

Experience

- No previous mascot or performance experience is required.
- Previous experience in athletics, entertainment, performance or customer service is considered an asset.
