Bay Equipment Rentals is a locally owned and operated business that has served construction professionals and DIY customers across Nova Scotia for over 20 years. With one of the largest rental inventories in the HRM, we operate from four convenient locations (Lower Sackville, Cole Harbour, Tantallon, and Elmsdale). Our fleet includes earth-moving equipment (excavators, compact track loaders/SVL series, skid steers, tractor-loader-backhoes), compaction equipment, generators, pumps, outdoor power equipment, and a wide range of construction tools. The Role

We are seeking a Red Seal Certified Heavy Duty Equipment Technician to join our service team, based primarily at our Lower Sackville location. You will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on our diverse rental fleet so equipment stays reliable and available for customers. This is a hands-on shop-based role (with occasional support to other locations or field work as needed) focused on compact and medium construction equipment, hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, and related components. You’ll play a key part in maintaining the high standard of service our customers expect.

Key Responsibilities

- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems on rental equipment (excavators, compact track loaders, skid steers, compactors, generators,



and related attachments).
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, and service interval work to manufacturer specifications.
- Complete pre- and post-rental inspections; ensure equipment is clean, safe, and fully functional before release.
- Accurately complete work orders, parts requests, service records, and time documentation.
- Identify root causes of failures and recommend repairs or component replacements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work area; follow all company safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with parts, rental, and sales teams to minimize downtime and support customer needs.
- Assist with training or mentoring less experienced technicians as needed.
- Occasionally support other Bay Rentals locations or field service/equipment recovery when required.

Qualifications

Required

- Valid Red Seal Certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (or equivalent interprovincial certification).
- Proven experience diagnosing and repairing heavy or compact construction equipment (diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic software.




- Valid Nova Scotia driver’s licence with a clean abstract; ability to operate company vehicles.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50+ lbs, stand, bend, and work in a physical shop environment.
- Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer service.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently or as part of a team.

Preferred

- Experience with Kubota, or similar compact equipment fleets.
- Familiarity with rental-industry service workflows and high equipment utilization.
- Experience with aerial or specialty rental equipment is an asset but not required.
- Basic computer skills for work-order systems and parts lookup.
