We believe in doing things right the first time, supporting our crew with training, and respect they deserve, and delivering projects our clients can rely on for decades.
The Impact You'll Make
D&E; Structures Ltd, is currently looking to hire a Cladding Superintendent to join our growing team in Calgary. Our Ideal candidate will be reliable and responsible people who can work efficiently in a team atmosphere, using their knowledge and skills to achieve the task at hand. A safe professional mentality and solid work ethic are important to our company culture. As a Cladding Superintendent you’ll be an essential part of our operations.
Position:
The Cladding Superintendent is accountable for planning, supervising, and delivering the complete building envelope on modular oilfield and industrial buildings, rigid-frame steel buildings, and self-framing (light-gauge / cold-formed) metal buildings.
This includes double-skin insulated wall systems (liner, insulation, exterior profile) and standing seam metal roof systems, from yard assembly through field installation, punch, and turnover. Hands-on experience cladding both rigid-frame buildings and self-framing buildings is a must. Extensive capability in blueprint reading and drawing interpretation is also a must—the Superintendent must take architectural, structural, cladding shop drawings, and manufacturer details and turn them into accurate field layout and crew direction.
The role owns schedule, quality, safety, crew productivity, material control, and coordination with steel erection, mechanical, electrical, and client inspection teams. The Superintendent is expected to run work as a full-scope envelope package—not isolated pieces—so walls, roofs, flashings, penetrations, and closures land as one weathertight system.
Requirements:
- Double-Skin Wall Systems
- Standing Seam Roof Systems
- Rigid Frame Buildings (Must-Have Experience)
- Self-Framing Buildings (Must-Have Experience)
- Modular Building Production & Field Fit-Up
- Planning & Supervision
- Blueprint Reading & Drawing Interpretation (Must-Have)
- Quality, Warranty & Turnover
- Safety Requirements
- Materials, Tools & Cost Control
Technical Competencies
- Must have proven cladding experience on both rigid-frame steel buildings and self-framing (light-gauge / cold-formed) metal buildings.
- Proven installation and supervision of double-skin / insulated metal panel or built-up double-skin wall systems on industrial, modular, rigid-frame, and self-framing buildings.
- Hands-on knowledge of standing seam roof systems: panel profiles, clip systems, thermal movement, seaming equipment, and flashing packages.
- Ability to distinguish rigid-frame secondary (girts/purlins/eave struts) from self-framing panel/structural systems and apply the correct attachment and flashing details for each.
- Extensive blueprint reading and interpretation: architectural, structural, cladding shop drawings, PEMB/manufacturer drawings, sections, details, specs, and revision control—able to layout work and brief crews from drawings without relying on others to “read the prints.”
- Able to take off materials from drawings, check running vs. overall dimensions, and raise RFIs on clashes before panels are cut or seamed.
- Understanding of air/vapour/weather barriers, thermal bridging, firestopping at penetrations, and module-split closure details.
- Familiarity with common industrial cladding products and accessories used in Western Canadian oilfield and modular work.
- Competent with lifts, panel handling, roof access systems, and safe flying of long panels.
- Working knowledge of Alberta OH&S;, working-at-heights, and typical client site rules (energy / industrial).
Qualifications
- 8+ years cladding / building envelope experience, with at least 3 years supervising crews on industrial, commercial, modular, or pre-engineered metal building projects.
- MUST HAVE:
documented experience cladding rigid-frame steel buildings (primary frames with girts/purlins).
- MUST HAVE: documented experience cladding self-framing / light-gauge metal buildings (panels acting as structural skin/diaphragm).
- MUST HAVE: extensive capability in blueprint reading and interpretation—able to work independently from IFC / shop / manufacturer drawing sets and explain layout to the crew.
- Demonstrated project experience with double-skin walls and standing seam metal roofs (not single-skin only).
- Valid driver's license; able to travel between yard and field sites across Alberta.
- Working-at-heights / fall protection, aerial work platform, and first aid tickets (or ability to obtain immediately).
- Strong English communication for crew direction, client interface, and written daily reports.
Preferred
- Journeyman sheet metal, ironworker, or equivalent industrial cladding trade background.
- Manufacturer certifications for standing seam systems and/or insulated metal panel systems.
- Experience in modular yards producing oilfield buildings, wellsites, or process buildings, plusfield erection of rigid-frame and self-framing PEMBs.
- Manufacturer or builder experience with common rigid-frame / self-framing systems used in Western Canada.
- CSTS, WHMIS, confined space awareness, and client-specific orientations (e.g. energy majors). Ability to produce marked-up as-builts, material take-offs from drawings, RFIs, and crew timesheets / punch-clock records.
